OT- you know it's a bad week when . . .

Catching a cold is among the high points of the week.

I am going to interrupt this holiday spirit to whine about my dreadful week which included family members visiting doctors (including a vet) for different things 3 times in 4 days.

* my baby got his first ever cold and was miserable. After a vomitting spell, he saw a doc on Monday. And he gave his cold to both my wife and me. We have had colds before and weren't as affected as he was.
* HUGE snow storm last weekend. Biggest December snow storm in recorded history of Washington DC

* yesterday while walking the dog I slipped and fell on some ice. While it didn't seem bad at the time, I heard my wrist which became less mobile and more painful as the day went on. I went to the ER around 3:30. Didn't see doctor until 6 and learned that I broke a small bone on the back of my wrist. Got it in a brace but couldn't leave until 7:30, a 4 hour visit to the ER. I see a hand surgeon on Monday to see if anything else needs to be done. It is my left hand and I, like Stewart, write left handed. Diaper changing with only one useful hand is a real challenge.

* finally, our Siamese cat was limping yesterday. Took him to the vet today and learned he had burnt his paw on a burner. His left front paw is bandaged up and looks kind of like mine now.

Hopefully the bad thing have run their course and we get a safe, calm Christmas.

Now returning to your holiday cheer.

Thanks.

And it could be much worse. No one died, we didn't lose our residence, no one got cancer, etc. But it still seems pretty bad compared to most week.

Aw, Nick, I'm so sorry. Sounds like you and your family have had the week from hell! True that it could be worse, but I sure hope it gets waaaay better real soon. Your news sort of confirms what I've heard so many others say, that 2009 has been a tough year and just as well put behind us.* Hope you and yours get an extra dose of good things in 2010 to make up for all this misfortune.

*Although in your case, 2009 DID bring you Sam. I suspect that alone is what you'll recall as the years pass!

Hang in there, Perrys! Maybe Santa will bring you something extra-special to make up for it all. Hoping so. Have a great day tomorrow - Sam's first Xmas! How exciting!!!!!

Nick, I always say "it could be worse", but my boyfriend cancels me out with "it could be better". Remember Sam in times like these and 2010 will be here before the next week is out! Merry Christmas (stay close to home and on one floor-- preferably not the kitchen linoleum.)

Things are looking up in the Perry household.

That cold has faded or nearly faded from the three humans in the households. It was the worse my baby or my wife ever suffered through. Since it is the baby's first, that isn't as dramatic as with my wife who has had previous colds.

My wrist break isn't that bad at all, as write breaks go. Saw hand surgeon yesterday who said I just need to keep it in a brace for a few weeks for it to heal and won't need surgery or even a cast.

The cat's paw is still burnt but he is doing better.

And most of the snow is gone.

Finally, I was able to load a new avatar of Sam showing his early and fine musical prferences.

Hear hear, conroy! On Any Other WEEK......really!
Hope all is better now for you and Mrs. njperry. And that little boy of yours is a real cutie, how sweet in your avatar pic.
Happy New Year, and try drinking some diluted apple cider vinegar (put in honey if you can't stand it), warm like a tea. This is an old Polish home remedy we use, and it knocked out my heinous head & chest cold in 4 days. Take care!

I like the analogy to Any Other Day, although there are differences. My fine young son is too young to have such preferences one way or the other. While I was walking the dog when I broke my wrist, he didn't bite my leg nor is he at all at fault with the fall. However, the cat may have burnt his paw after the scambled eggs were cooked. I cooked them myself abd thye weren't burnt, but that is one of the times the burner was on.

Sheesh, that's some week. Glad everyone is on the mend. By the way, Sam is the best name in the universe (my third is Samuel James).
