A Winter's Night DVD

I have to admit - I liked it. Beautifully filmed. My Amazon review:

Sting couldn't have chosen a more beautiful place to film this gorgeous concert. Durham Cathedral almost eclipses the music and the man himself. The venue adds an intangible quality to the performance that would be lost at any other location. The musicians are extraordinary and Sting's voice is in top shape. The lighting is impeccable. I had my doubts about this DVD, but the stunning quality won me over. I much prefer El Stingo when he dons his rock hat, but Sting has always had the ability to defy conventional limitations in regards to what a "rock musician" is capable of accomplishing. The songs are a mixture of English folk songs, lullabys and a few of Sting's compositions. The documentary DVD was an even bigger bonus. The film takes us through the gathering of the musicians to record the album, rehearsals for the concert, and a delightful tour of Newcastle and visits with old friends. The documentary did an excellent of job of showing Sting as a man, not an international rock star. As he says in the film, "I have no mystery here. There's no myth." Sting completists will no doubt want this DVD, but I would also recommend it to even a casual fan.

I'm debating on getting this at Deepdiscount.com for $17.49 and the Elvis Spectacle box set for $30. The sale ends at midnight tonight.

I was at a session between takes and one of my friends was playing it on his laptop. While waiting, I just happened to catch a little of the show...and I was like darn it this is really really good. I so wanted to hate it, but after watching it ( went out and purchased it that night) I am glad of my purchase it is wonderful, everything about it works. Mind you the album is nowhere near the calibur of the dvd...but the dvd is worth the price...especially for the winter season. Sting does a wonderful job evoking the winter season.

Ugh, you know, I just said in the cd thread that I like the Durham performance better than the cd. Now that I know there are interviews on the dvd.... I was hoping watching the PBS performance would get me out of giving Stink more of my $$$ but I guess I need it now... CRAP! Glad you let us know though.

Just when I thought I was out... he pulls me back in!!!!!!!!!!

OK, how do you like the CD?

And - for me even more important -: Am I visible in the audience at Durham Cathedral?Image
