Just wondering

In the early eighties with do do do da de de de da.....there was this guy with blonde hair slipping in the snow taping on a video camera.....fell madly in love....

One might ask why now........

I was looking at my screen saver a shot of the police


and i thought to my self what attracted me to Stew?

He did.

Sting is one good looking bloke so is Andy but to me Stewart stood out.....why?

He is one of a kind

He spoke his mind

No airs and graces

He was who he was and made no excuses for that

You saw what he was and he will never change that is what I love about Stewart Copeland....what about you?

At first he was always behind Sting (popularity,compositions,press,etc)
And seemed friendly and and with a bit mad rictus in face.
Also saw how hard he was working.
So always felt his musical presence in the headphones like a fine stuff when I was a younger one walking in the streets.
Then, I knew more about his life (I defend privacity so I don´t want to know too much ) and realized something I ´d already intuited:-He´s a human being.

Y parecía amistoso y con una leve cara de loco.
También noté lo duro que trabajaba con Police.
Así que siempre sentí su presencia musical en los auriculares de mi walkman,caminando por las calles, como algo bueno .
Después supe mas de su vida(defiendo la privacidad de las personas así que no quiero saber tanto ,aunque entiendo a las chicas,ja ja)y me di cuenta de algo que ya había intuido: es un ser humano,nomás.

I first heard the Police in September of 1979; I was hanging out at a local bar, the Greeleaf, and I asked the bartender, Bobby, "What is THAT???". He brought the album over for me to see.

The "Stewart thing", alas, came many years later... too late to see him, and the Police ,in the flesh. I was watching the DVD of Certifiable last November (2008) with my boyfriend after a fevered rush to Best Buy earlier in the afternoon, and I remember sitting there in my Lazy Boy thinking "oh my God, where have I (and Stewart) been my entire life!"

Many CDs, DVDs, books, pictures and posters (thanks, Jan!), and deciding "I think I'll learn to play the drums!" later: Voila. Here I am on this thread on the SC.net forum

I couldn't say exactly when I first heard the Police, I wasn't around at the time of their fame (was born a few years after they broke up). I've known about them for a few years, basically by watching Vh1 and Vh1 Classic, but I only knew and liked a few of their songs and didn't pay a lot of attention to them until around September last year when they had a Sting weekend on vh1 and also played lots of Police videos. That's basically what got me hooked. I was so amazed by these guys and how original they can be, wow!! So I started listening to them a lot, got the albums, the DVDs and I just couldn't get enough (still can't). The more I listened/watched videos, the more I loved them! Of course, when I found out about the reunion tour that had recently ended, I felt like kicking myself (and still do every now and then when I think about it). Really wish I'd seen them live because they are the best band ever!

Anyway, I remember getting Certifiable as soon as I saw it in a store. Bought it immediately, just couldn't wait. And I love it!! The atmosphere is fantastic and as close as I'll ever get to feel what it was like to attend such a show.

Also, I was really impressed by the guys as musicians, being so original even if there's just three of them. I really like their reggae influence and all that incredible energy! And of course I started to really notice Stewart and how unique he is. I had never really paid much attention to a particular drummer before, but he really amazed me! I'm not a musician, but I think his style is just fantastic and recognizable! I love all the little things he adds that make it more interesting and how powerful and expressive his playing is. And ever since, I wanted to hear his music too and found out more about some of his projects after the Police. I really admire him because he's done so many things and so different and has enjoyed doing them. He really is kool.

Although I never got to experience the Police live, I was fortunate to get to see Stewart in concert this year with the Taranta in Lugano. And that is something I will never ever forget, it was amazing!!! Loved it so much, words are not enough to describe!

What more can I say, I always enjoy reading more about Stewart and the Police or listening to/watching some recordings I hadn't known before (many of which I got because of the links posted on this forum, so thank you nutters!!) and of course, coming here on sc.net which is a great place with great people.

The first time I heard a POLICE album, I thinking that drum sounds incredible great... I remember it was Driven to tears first came to my ears with that outstanding beats and hit hats... the same result was with Andy and Sting...Wooow this band sounds spectacular and out of earth!!! Years passed I collected everything about THE POLICE... but with Stewart is the first time I really appreciate how amazing is a drummer you know is the salt & pepper of a great band... then in 2007 that hero was in front of my face ... you imagine admiring THE POLICE for years and watching their video clips and then Stewart is there said me "Hello" and I only shoked and freshed replied him.... "Are you the real Stewart Copeland?" and him "Are you the real Jose from Peru?" ha,ha,ha,ha... is like you met a great buddie you didn't see for years

watching the Kenny Everett Show at my mates house in 1980, i was 6ish he was 7ish. that was the first time i was aware of them. then my brother nicked a zenyatta mondatta tape from a party and guiltily gave it to me....

my mates mum was/is a drum teacher/drummer/percussionist (so was his grandfather).... i can remember her playing along to zenyatta telling me/him what a "bar" was and getting us to play along on her massive kit...... and i remember when Ghost came out (i was 7-ish) she asked me why gordo only counted to 6 at the start of Invisible Sun, i wasn't sure thinking that there were four beats in a bar, when my older mate said that he was counting bars not beats.. i remember hating him for knowing and saying it in such a smug way!
it was all about gordo fer years (i play bass, was a teacher, did sing in a 3 piece band, some acting etc) but he tarnished his reputation pretty quickly with me as i became 16 and, in the 90's gordo's output said nothing to me (huh, i had my own band, fuck that old shit, etc)... but stewart kept on giving, cemented in 1989 when i saw him in the Night of the Guitars (with lots of irrelevant fret-wanking dinosaurs) and animal logic (ignore the poddle-haired guitarist and accept the guilty Stan Clarke secret of jazz funk, <gasp>))...
if i played the police to anyone in the 90's it was tarnished because gordo was SO uncool.. but stewart's drumming always was the redeemer; "yeah, yeah, so gordo is AOR now but listen to the fucking drums"

30 years later, I still have to recover!

I discovered that STEWART was something special when I saw the video of ELTSDIM. Nothing in the video itself stuck out. But really hearing that hi hat did it for me. My fandom then was completely cemented when I saw the Synch II video. That's when I fell in love with his snare.

Stewart has never touched my wife.

despite this astonishing fact, he impressed me with his energetic presence, that's what I recall the most, just like a octopus, arms all over, playing, playing, playing...
