OT: sockii and vespapod are off to the homeland

Postby sockii on 15 Oct 2009 19:31

Yo!

Just a quick note that we're off for a majorly overdue vacation tomorrow though near the end of the month...ten days in Rome being art and food geeks to the max (or at least as much as our lousy dollars will let us).

Dunno if there are any nutters in Rome who might want to meet up for a drink or lunch or something, but do feel free to drop me an email (soon!) if so...I fear our internet will likely be limited beyond trying to follow the Phillies as much as possible until our return...

....and, we're back.

So what did we miss in the past 10 days? It was rather glorious being nearly completely off-line for a while...

Welcome back.

Here is some of what you missed.

After most people preferred the 12th of Dec. over the 5th for the Nutter holiday party, Laurie picked the 5th, but only because hotel rooms were not to be found on the 12th in Philly. That theread is calling for you to announce your expected attendance.

Horacio put together a really kool youtube video of our avatars (includign yours).

And AVOID the thread about Sting reading Strange Things Happen. 2 Nutters got into an ugly argument that was unbecoming of both of them.

ETA: And most importantly, DirtyMartinii is doing much better.

Welcome back! How was Italy? Did'ja have gelato?

Well the date for the holiday party changed to 12/5 because the Army/Navy game is on 12/12 and the restaurant is booked for that night. AND, there are no hotel rooms to be found.
Stewart and Stanley together again!! YO!

hey sockii you need to post a link to the blog here :-) The pics of the pizza are just classic.

I love the food in Italy but I have to say that pizza is one thing that Americans [particularly nuerotalians] do much better.

Ha! I'm only half-way through! OK well I've been posting day-by-day travel-blogs here:

and my photos are going daily here:

*cough* What what WHAT?! I'm sorry, but I can barely stomach American pizza since discovering the "real" thing in Venice two years ago...that is still my standard by which all pizzas are judged...I am a diehard fan of cracker-thin crusts as you only seem to get in Italy. My one complaint with Rome pizzas was the toppings were fairly limited (though vespa had an amazing pizza con lardo and we had several good pizza capciosas). I thought Venice had the best pizzas overall that I've tasted so far, and I can't wait until April when we go back and I can get a fabulous seafood pizza again (with mussels still in shell and head-on prawns, and eggs cracked right over the pizza before being fired in the oven... YUM!!!!!)

Your photos are absolutely breathtaking! I've been looking at them but have wanted to cobble together something coherent to say before I started commenting. Thanks so much for taking the time to photoblog.

Thanks Dive! ::blush:: I felt somewhat silly taking so many damned photos, but it's the artist in me--I just kept turning around and finding something else I wanted to capture as a reference for a future painting, or whatever just compelled me on some visceral level.

And oy, I'm only half-way through...need to find the energy to write up and post the rest yet!!!

I'm only kicking myself that I seem to have lost the video I shot of vespa kicking me off my chair as the pope-mobile drove by a few feet away from us...it was hella funny...after I get everything else uploaded I'm going to try to recover it (stupid, stupid iphoto!!!!)

No, I'm *really* enjoying them. Just wanna take the time to sit down and look at them all properly, so I can ask informed questions & such - hope to get to do that shortly. Looking forward to hearing all about it in person in December.

Coolness. Vespa and I just got word today that an Italy society he's joined wants us to do a presentation in January on our Italy trips - and our artwork!

I need to go through Flickr and add captions to the photos yet as well...it's just been a bitch getting anything done while recuperating from this damned bug...
