Voters in Rhythm Poll are apparently morons

The cover story in the October 2009 of the UK magazine Rhythm is the 50 Greatest Drummers of All Time as voted by its readers.

Unfortunately, I live in the US, so my local bookstore does not have the October issue yet, which went on the stands in the UK on September 30.

Searching the internet, there is little on the list. One source says Bonham is No. 1, 2 is Buddy Rich, three is Moon, and four is Peart.

I am curious if anyone knows the ranks of all 50 and where Stewart is on this list.

Granted, I put little weight behind these fan votes, but I must admit I'm curious.

Not in the Top Ten? And exactly who are in the slots ahead of him? I swear to fucking God, if Travis Barker is ahead of STEWART (I only suspect this because Barker is on of the drummers on the cover), I will FUCKING FREAK!

Ok. Maybe not. It is a fan poll, so you've got to expect stuff like that. But I'd still like to know who 1-11 are. as well as 13-50.

Even if it's a journo or drummers' poll - WHO EFFIN' CARES? It's true that it kind of pisses you off - got like that when they made the Dylan best 50 covers poll and Bowie and the Stones weren't there (Thank goodness the best was All Along The Watchtower by Jimi H.). That is somebody's opinion! Somebody who has access to the press.

My theory is that these polls are just a sign of lazy editors who can't come up with enough material and are trying to pump up sales and hits to their online websites since they know we'll discuss them on forums such as this and the debating will cause people to get riled up and inflate their stats. I refuse to participate (or even click on the links to them) or post the links here...unless it's something that might lead to an Oysterhead reunion ;)

Trufax. Especially in a competitive country like the US, people are always intrigued by "The Best..." and it sells.
I don't participate either. There always be a sea of people who say "HOW COME......IS NOT THERE????"

I see on Mike Portnoy's website that he was voted #5.

So we know 1-5 and #12. Anyone have any more info?

Still trying to wrap my mind around this list. Tommy Lee higher than Billy Cobham, Terry Bozzio, Carl Palmer, and Elvin Jones. Wow.

[quote="TOWOS"]While I question his cerebral matter, at least Tommy Lee is a good drummer and looks great. What in the name of GONG do PHIL COLLINS and CHAD SMITH ahead of Those you Mention? AND Vinnie, Steve Gadd, and Gene Krupa?
Is my eyesight failing or I don't see Taylor? Or Greg Bissonette? Especially Greg - those clearly have never heard David Lee Roth's Skyscraper OR Joe Satriani's The Extremist (I'm not worthy icon - one of my favorite records EVER).

Ay ay ay ay, Eq. This is why we should not dignify these lists with any irate thoughts.

One last comment and then i'll TRY to give this a rest.

So . . . I guess Max Roach isn't one of the 50 greatest ever? *Sigh* What has become of our generation?

ETA Changed the thread title. NOW I'm done
