"Ghost" demo - Don't You Believe Me Baby

need help:

Jean Roussel told me that "Don't You Believe Me Baby" is one of the songs he wrote with Sting.
They recorded the demo in Montreal in early 1981.
So far there's no official recording, but maybe this will change.

As it's partly written by Jean he may want to record it with other musicians. Who knows?

Anyway - I could need your help with the lyrics. It seems that Jean wrote most of the music, whereas Sting wrote the lyrics. Jean would like to see our take of the lyrics. Now I'm not a native English speaker, so before I try to write down what I think I understand and present some wrong lyrics to Jean I'd prefer to include all of you who have those "Ghost" demos.

If you're sure about the lyrics - or bits and pieces - you can either post here or send an e-mail to

dtmrcls at aol dot com

bye,
Dietmar

and thanks!

Yikes. This one's tough. (And kinda terrible.)

Here's what I got: perhaps someone else can fix or fill in the blanks?

[BTW, I feel iffy posting these lyrics (please don't sue me, Sting), but it's the only way to get other input. Send me an email if anyone wants these nixed.]

[Guesses pulled cuz of comparison to another version]

thanks!
I received another e-mail about this (quite different)
any more ?

there are German singers which I don't even remotely understand... even when it's an official "perfect" production
so don't worry about not-understanding

but I guess we're on a good way to find a final version for Jean

I was wondering: why doesn't Jean Roussel asks Sting what the lyrics are?

maybe he will get to him with "our" completed lyrics
as far as I understand it they recorded demos for a few days in Montreal at Jean's place at some time between the Every Little Thing demo and the Montserrat recordings.
one song was used for Dusty Springfield
I doubt that Sting will have the lyrics or can remember them
as those songs were created there within that week
anyway - Jean would love to hear what we understand of it
maybe he will re-record this song WITH Sting's lyrics then (depending on his approval)

I'll email in a few, D -- I think the other guesses offline are a huge improvement on my version.

Just want to confirm the title--on my Ghost Demo it's called "Don't Believe In Me, Baby." Which one's correct?

Okay, after listening for a few seconds, Dietmar's correct. Whoever uploaded the demo I have must've put the wrong title on it.

anyone there who might have hesitated until now ?
I could send the "complete" lyrics as far as 4 people were able to understand them

most of it seems to be correct, some words / sentences are not that sure
and there are still very few lines with "mumble mumble" which could need your ears !!

I could put the song through a couple audio programs to isolate/EQ the vocals up as much as possible, I suppose.

I'm really disappointed in how lazy most of you seem to be!
This concerns wiki participation as well as the very few contributions to this topic.
It seems most of you want to receive stuff on a silver plate...
Now insulting you might not give me the response I am hoping for, but anyway - I'm not one to withhold my feelings.

Our collaborative efforts so far can be seen here:

the demo is also on youtube, but it doesn't sound that good - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uNLtTZ10YBU

1st verse

I reached our rendezvous at 8
Relieved to find I wasn't late
I saw you standing in the shadows
It's hard to tell what happened then
I took you in my arms again
I realised I'd kissed a stranger

That's definite

I presume you are ok with the chorus? seems straightforward enough.

2nd verse

Saying I mistook her for a friend
She must have thought me 'round the bend
I was covered in embarrassment (covered word not so sure but think it's ok)
I made her see I was no punk
The wait has drug me full of junk (not totally sure again)
I was sorry for her harrassment
