It appears that the episode featuring Bono and the Edge was already recorded in Toronto on 9-15-09.

However, the episode with Bruce Springsteen is set to be recorded on September 25 in NYC. I have not seen anything regarding tickets for the Springsteen taping yet.

Apparently, Elvis Costello will also be doing a show with Paul McCartney. I do not have any info on that show yet.

If anyone gets more info, please post here.

I am just dying they're taping Nick Lowe AND Neko Case within two days of each other and Elvis' $%^& staff couldn't get the word out in time for those of us who live in other states to buy plane tickets. Sigh. Seriously, I'd have gone like a shot had I been able to make arrangements...I've only been waiting, oh, about five years to see Nick & Elvis onstage together. However, being in London running around all day + having only the IPhone for Internet + less than a week's notice = not much chance, I guess. Sigh.

At any rate, thanks for keeping us up to date on these, EQ. You're a one-man public service committee a lot of the time.

I try.

And now I feel spoiled. The first time I ever saw Elvis Costello live was on the Spike tour. Nick Lowe was the opening act, so of course Nick joined Elvis on stage during the main set. Definitely worth seeing the two together in action.

The 9-23 taping is now sold out, but tickets apparently remain for the 9-24 taping with Nick Lowe.

Also saw this on Backstreets.com, the Springsteen fan site:

Elvis Costello begins taping episodes this week for another season of Spectacle, his hit talk/music show on the Sundance Channel, and Bruce Springsteen will be one of his guests for Season Two.

Spectacle: Elvis Costello with... fuses the best elements of talk and music television and invites viewers to enjoy an intimate conversation between the host and his guests, punctuated by rare musical performances by his guests and a wide variety of musicians. Season One guests included Sir Elton John, Tony Bennett, John Mellencamp, The Police and President Bill Clinton. Costello also performs, starting each episode with an original, never-before-seen interpretation of a song by the featured guest, or a song connected to them.

The Springsteen episode tapes this Friday evening, September 25, when Bruce will join Elvis on stage in front of a live audience in New York City, just two days after his 60th birthday. We'll have a report right here following the taping, as well as Season Two broadcast information once more is known.

Thanks to everyone who participated in our drawing for tickets!
Backstreets is helping to fill the audience for Friday's show, giving away 100 tickets to fans in a random drawing. The contest, announced late last week via our email list, ended this morning at 10 a.m. Eastern, with a total of 1695 valid entries; from those entries, we'll randomly select 50 winners of two tickets each. By today's end, we'll have drawn winners (using a random number generator) and begun contacting them by email. All winners will be conatcted by tomorrow at the latest, and we'll post a notice here once all the email notifications have gone out.

If it were a Nick-only episode (and if I hadn't just spent a load of money in England), I'd still drop everything and go. As it is, they'll probably play material by the other three artists - although if we're really lucky one of the tunes will be "Peace Love Understanding."

Hmmmm. Just not sure I can justify the expense for only the one song - although what a song it'll be.

Springsteen'll be good as well, I'm sure. However, I've got tix to see him play 'Born to Run' in November, so gonna sit tight there too....

Sounds like a great show. Found it on Backstreets that this is part of the rescheduling of the show from earlier this month.

Have fun Dive.

Thanks for doing all the leg work EQ. I'm a member of EC's fan club and I got an e-mail about some of the New York tapings. I didn't hear a thing about the Toronto tapings though. The Edge/Bono show would have been very cool to attend. I'll have to keep my ear to the ground about any more shows being done here. EQ, you're still bound to uncover any such news before I do. If so, please pass it on.

This was posted at Dime (just the review, not a recording):

September 25 2009, Apollo Theater, New York, NY

Notes: Over the course of a nearly four-hour Spectacle taping at the Apollo Theater in Harlem, Bruce Springsteen and Elvis Costello discussed everything from their Catholic upbringings to fatherhood to being labeled "The Next Dylan" to Asbury Park to the role of the songwriter in a democratic society. They talked quite a bit about where and how their paths crossed over the years, including Roy Orbison's "Black & White Night" performance. It's unlikely that nearly all of last night's absolutely engrossing conversation will make it to air; the only consolation to seeing some of these insightful artistic musings fall on the cutting room floor is that they'll be left out to make room for the music. My God, the music!
Costello and the Imposters opened the show with a cover of "Point Blank," setting the tone early for what was to be a night of many non-traditional Springsteen tunes. At Costello's request, Bruce opened with "Wild Billy's Circus Story," for which he was joined onstage by an acoustic Nils Lofgren (who had performed "Like Rain" earlier with The Imposters backing him) and Roy Bittan on accordion. Costello coaxed some early memories from Springsteen regarding the traveling circus in Freehold and the sense of wonder and fear it inspired in him as a child. This was not Storytellers Part II, though. There was no line-by-line deconstruction of songs. Costello seemed primarily interested in the emotional effects of the music, both on Springsteen and his audience, and a major portion of their talk was devoted to the thematic shift that occurred following Born to Run. As Springsteen explained it to Costello, he became more invested in writing songs he felt he would still be able to relate to at the ripe old age of 40 (this of course drew a laugh).
The show was very explicitly a television taping and not a "concert," though, which meant a lot of stopping and starting to rearrange the stage and to get things just right. A solo acoustic version of "American Skin (41 Shots)" came off after a false start, and Springsteen initially forgot that "Galveston Bay" was in Drop D tuning. When the conversation wandered to Roy Orbison, Costello joined Springsteen in an impromptu cover of "Pretty Woman" that ended abruptly halfway through. They redeemed themselves shortly after with a show-stopping rendition of Sam & Dave's "I Can't Stand Up For Falling Down," Bruce taking Sam's part and Elvis taking Dave's.
Following a quick break, the two reconvened with talk of family life. Costello praised Patti's role as musician, wife, and mother, and performed an acoustic version of her "Black Ladder." Springsteen discussed the pleasure he felt standing outside of his son's room one evening and hearing him listen to "Chimes of Freedom." "What do you think of it?" he asked. "Epic," his son replied, "it's epic, dad." And who could argue with that?
More than three hours into his own epic discussion, Springsteen expressed fear that the audience would keel over soon and indicated that it was time for the finale. He strapped on an electric guitar and delivered a gut-wrenching version of "The Rising" backed by the Imposters, Bittan, Lofgren, and Costello (who stepped up for the dream of lifes). There was a fiery quality to the performance that was only intensified moments later when the band ripped into "Seeds." Springsteen wailed on the guitar and bellowed like he was half his age or younger, and the crowd was on its feet. The night concluded with a "Radio" medley, connecting Springsteen's "Radio Nowhere" with Costello's "Radio Radio." While the two might not have been the perfect musical pairing to mash together, it was a thematically appropriate and satisfyingly creative ending to a truly unforgettable night.
