"The Flag" goes to school, AGAIN.

So, I've gone back to school. Just taking two classes right now, Drawing I and Public Speaking.
I'm sweating now just thinking about my first speech I have to give this Wednesday. What's my topic going to be for this "informative" speech? Why, Stewart and The Flag, of course. Prof said chose a topic we know a lot about. I think this qualifies. I think I will feel most at ease speaking on this subject and I think, even if folks are not fans of the band (I'm probably one of, if not THE oldest person in class) it will still be a good human interest story. We're all fans of something, so I figure that makes it relevant to all.
I would love to have someone record my speech so I could share it with you all, but I figured that might be a bit dorky to be the only one in class taping their speech. You'll just have to take my word for it if I live through it well enough to tell the tale here.
Wish me luck. Today I am getting together my "visual aids".
Thanks Stewart and Dirty Martini for giving me a great subject to break the ice.
xoxo

Good luck with your speech, bella. From my experience with school related flaggery, I find that people are intrigued by the story regardless of their age.

Good for you for going back to school bella! And good luck on the speech. I talked about the Flag and the Police Red Rocks shows for one of my classes, it was the easiest presentation I ever gave. You'll do just fine.

Smax, I can honestly say I have never heard that phrase before.
LLady, you and your French class are going to be mentioned in my speech, as well as Sockii's pledge and Bongo Boy's anthem! Too bad I don't have time, or else I'd actually play his anthem. I was worried about filling 4-5 minutes, and now I am worried about going
over! I guess that's a good problem to have.
Shy, that is encouraging.
I will let you all know how it goes. Right now I am having trouble with my visual aids. I think our prof is technologically deficient as he wasn't too encouraging about us using the overhead projector with the computer. He is all about the VCR and so I am trying to transfer my wonderfully made computer slide show (that starts with a bit of Roxanne from the Grammys to "grab audience attention" as we learned in class) to VHS. Oy. We'll see.
Thanks all for the well wishes!! May the force be with me.

train wreck. complete and utter train wreck.
The VCR in the class room didn't have a "pause" button and the speech required pauses of the tape throughout. To make matters worse, I couldn't just hit the stop button because then the tv went to the very loud fuzzzzz and there is no mute button, soooo I had to power off the TV in between. Therefore, my time (4-5 minute speech) was taken up by all this powering on and off, and before I knew it, prof was holding his hand up for the "1 minute left" signal and I hadn't even gotten halfway through!!!
Let's just say I am very glad this was not being recorded for posterity.
On an upbeat note, they did seem to enjoy the "abbreviated" story of the flag. =)
Note to self: forego antiquated visual aids from now on.

I'm sure you did fine, and it was loved by all (they were probably glad that it was you up there and not them, right?)
Good job, bella!

Haha. Oh, honey.
Well, at least you now know how limited your limited resources truly are.
Congrats on at least getting through intact!

I'm sorry to hear that you were side swiped by all the antiquated technological glitches. The instructor can't do anything better than a VCR????? Even I know that's pretty lame. If you want to get back at the guy, you should hide his ink well before the start of class. That'll teach him!
