OK, so I thought I saw someone mention it, so let me go ahead and start it.
Not able to make La Jolla this weekend?
Need somewhere to vent/rant/chat/distract oneself from missing the good times?
Post here.
I'm enjoying a bottle of draft sake right now and getting ready to spend a fun weekend in the country with my mom playing with her pet chickens and going to a local clam bake. It ain't California, but it damned well ought to be fun nevertheless.
Who's next?

Cheers!
I'm half a bottle of not very good wine into multiple-location 'wish I was there' melancholy.
On the upside, I'm getting laundry done.

The painful thing for me is that I'll be driving to San Diego-ish tonight and will be within a stone's throw of La Jolla all weekend. However, I will be too busy being a good dad. It's Lil' EQ's birthday, and I promised to take her to Magic Mountain (or is it Six Flags) for a whole day of rollercoasters, boardwalk games, etc. I'm sure STEWART would understand.

Family crisis. Waiting and seeing. I'm gonna leave it at that.
BUT I'm enjoying hearing about all your plans already and looking forward to the reports from the City That Shall Not Be Named In This Thread.
ETA: Sorry to hear that you're so close yet so far, EQ, but glad to hear that it's for a good reason.

I've been cleaning my basement! On the upside, I came across THE box, the one with all my memorabilia from highschool and university. I hadn't peeked in there in years. I found my ticket stub from The Police concert in Toronto, August '82 and Elvis Costello, February '81. That put me in a happy place. I'm no where close to finish cleaning the basement though.
I can't join you in a drink just yet because I have to drive my son to his soccer game first. Maybe I'll pick up a bottle of white wine on the way home to better enhance my California dreaming.
Smax, have you passed around the crisps yet? And smudge, your mum is not getting anywhere near my new car this time.

Sunday get all last minute stuff done for school. More work and plan a class birthday party for Erin s kindergarten class Tuesday. Ugh. I don't think I could have fit this trip in if I wanted. Whew.
Today thus far shopping for school supplies two haircuts trash out and some yardwork. I have to go to wal mart for backpacks and lunchboxes and sign erin up for girlscouts.
Ugh.
I miss you all and wish I was there.

sitting in the conservatory, with neighbours, listnening to "telling lies (remix)" by thomspson twins, on the outside of (surprisingly) four bottles of wine (a nice new world to start, then lots o cheap italian from the co-op)..
i'm mostly bitching about my colleagues who didnt do their fucking job properly meaning one of my kids (erm, read "clients") has started a 10 month prison sentence today... fair enough, he had burgled a house in the middle of the day but if someone else on my team had done their fucking job properly the court would have accepted a robust alternative to custody and we could have done some great victim mediation work, electronic curfew, drug work, blah blah... fucking people..... etc etc etc etc and i'm still singing the praises of the person who found my wallet in london last weekend and handed it in to their plush knightsbridge hotel for me to collect the other night: and the £10 note was still in my wallet! hero badge for mr webster......... jolla, meh.

Finishing afternoon coffee and working away while taking peeks at the board.
Schools in session for my kids(Aug 17th START Ugh!) Would be hard to get away this week with my daughter starting high school.
Getting use to dropping off my daughter for zero period at 645AM! Who invented zero period anyway?
Lots going on but I have carved out a couple hours for myself Friday afternoon to see District 9. Can’t wait, that movie sounds right up my alley and I worship the ground Peter Jackson walks on!
Hope tonight to have a cold beer and check in on things. If I can commandeer some computer time at home from the rest of the family(sometimes I dread my one computer in the house rule but I stick by it).
And thanks sockii for starting the ball rolling, I asked in another thread if it was time to get a thread going for those of us not in La Jolla.
Back to the exciting world of Accounting and numbers!

Making yummy cauliflower mash and spicy meatballs for a potluck at work tomorrow. Been catching up on some summer reading -- lots of fun fiction to read! Might curl up with another Nora Roberts over the weekend.

Holy foooock! Nobody told me that I was going to be the resident tornado dodger while Dive is in La Jolla. Tornadoes do occur in my neck of the woods but very rarely. They are so rare that I'm not in the habit of checking the weather forecast for tornado warnings before heading out to one of my kids' soccer games. I should have though this evening. As we drove towards darkening skies, I turned on the car radio to see if they were calling for a storm. A tornado watch was called and quickly became a tornado warning with reports of funnel clouds touching down a little to the North of us. We often get bad weather that blows over quickly. As long as there's no lightening, the game goes on. Even when there is lightening, we all sit in our cars for 10 or 20 minutes, and more often then not the storm ends and the kids play. But this was entirely different. My brave son said we should not turn around for home until we reached the soccer field and warned the others that might still be there, unaware of the danger. Sure enough, when we arrived, there were about twenty or thirty people standing by the side of the field and looking at the advancing clouds and wondering if the game should start or not. Once I told them what I had heard on the radio everybody cleared out pretty quickly. Unfortunately, we didn't get back home before the storm hit. The sky was charcoal grey and the wind really whipped up. And then the rain struck. It was like we were suddenly going through a car wash. The radio station was reporting a funnel cloud had touched down right near their studios downtown. What a fun drive! We managed to get off the road and into a donut shop where we sat for a good long time until the storm passed.
There is no damage to my place and it doesn't look like any tornado struck my neighbourhood. However, the wind was high enough to knock down a few trees on the street. The radio is now announcing at least one death.
Sheeesh. Even though it's all calm now I think I'll dig up my bike helmet just in case.
I hope they're all enjoying pleasant ocean breezes in La Jolla.

Waiting for my lunch, and will go to swim with some friends... and hearing far away the certifiable version of Don't Stand So Close To Me.

Just got back from a two-week stint in Cheeseville-- was great to see family and friends, and of course eat some good cheese!
Today my first grader meets her new teacher at her new school.
