Psychedelic Furs Happy Mondays & Other Upcoming Shows in NE

In one of the more boggling yet still most excellent combinations of late, the Happy Mondays will be joining the Psychedelic Furs to tour in the 2nd half of 2009... How time flies, I remember playing my cassette of pills thrills and bellyaches into complete ruin in my first year of college <giggle> Can't even think how much I loved the Furs in the 80s...

Since my local shows are during ACL, looks like I might have to consider one of the North East shows...

Rundon't walk to the "P-Furs" show nearest you!! I was happyhappy to have gotten to attend their show here in Cinci area, um, 2 years ago. The sounded & looked great, lots of energy the entire show. AND I was able to get up next to the stage!! Good to see those fellows bck on the road.

I can see now that Philly is don Wed and I teach a T/R schedule this semester (a whopping four classes, to boot), depending on my schedule and some other factors, NYC might be the best possibility (being a Friday, etc.)

I have to sort a few other trips etc. out at the moment and owe you an email anyhow, sweetie--will be in touch!

that'll be a good gig, the furs never really made it as big as i thought they would..... i saw 'em at brixton years ago with PiL....... tony wilson (sadly deceased idealist/entrepreneur/professional northerner. owner of factory records; joy division, new order, mondays et al) ended up with a tape of one of my old bands and rang me at home, oooh, years ago, and spent no time telling me how he would love to sign my band but about 30 minutes describing in detail how he had paid for the mondays to go and record in barbados as that was the only place he thought the mondays, shaun rider especially, wouldn't be able to get any pills... he was right. although he got a phone call telling him that the bos had instead started to smoke rocks of crack the size of your head and had sold all the furniture from the recording studion in order to pay for it!!

Smax, I absolutely dying in response to your Tony Wilson story--that is just truly f*in epic on so many accounts. Am a fan of a lot of the stuff from the Factory/'Madchester' scene--I had no idea you were involved in the collateral damage from the epic fail of Yes Please...

Great story, smax. It's too bad for you that Tony Wilson didn't do a little research before sending the band off. I lived in the West Indies for a while. As soon as you mentioned Barbados, I knew how the story would end. The place used to be notorious for crack, maybe still is.

Too bad the Austin gig at Stubb's is on a weekday, otherwise I could easily talk the Kinetic Spouse into a weekend in Austin for a show! I love Stubb's.

Pixies: NYC @ Hammerstein Ballroom on Nov. 23,24,25 (the last date is our anniversary, too!)...am still creating my semester schedule so it's up in the air,being mid-week, and all, but the 25th is what we are aiming for most likely (but it should be noted it's a Wednesday...)

I love this thread!
I love The Furs. I think I wore my cassettes out of Talk Talk Talk and Forever Now.
I was lucky to see them back in the day. Greek Theater in LA, small outdoor theater, I think I was forth row. I was so close to Richard Butler, he blew me away.
