The ambition to take 'giant steps' and 'walk forever' was curtailed by Mission Control - cruelly reduced to 'one small step'.

there were some concerns raised about the effects on the previously well-motivated astronauts, some members of the crew were heard to say that they were going to "play all day", some even suggested that they could "live together" on the moon; an idea immediately frowned upon by NASA.

slightly OT of the OT, Neil Armstrong was the Commencement Speaker for my graduating class at VPI. We were so excited about the First Man on the Moon that I am afraid we neglected to listen to his wisdom..... -and no one in my group ( the bubblegum group) was even drunk !

Facinating stuff.

Right now I am watching the spacewalk on CNN.com

This stuff really gives you perspective.

(I wish they would fly all of Congress up there to have a meeting....nah, they wouldn't care.)

One small step....

BB.

Saw an excellent episode of Mythbusters on Discovery where they debunked the skeptics' theories that the moon landing was all staged. I don't remember the moon landing, per se. But I do remember the Apollo missions.

Gotta love the geekiness of Jamie and Adam.
