Stewart gets really lost and unfaithful in translation

Postby luddite lady on 02 Jul 2009 00:10

I was checking google news for any reviews of the Taranta show in Rome. I came across this one little article that had been translated to English from its original Italian with the dubious help of an e-translator service. Much of the article was gleaned from an Italian news release probably put out by the Ponderosa folks. I've seen much of the same stuff in other articles. In its original, the release says how Stewart's 2003 appearance with La Notte was supposed to be a one time thing but that Stewart fell in love with the Salento region and its music and this has resulted in the present day Taranta tour. This is how the one article translated that:

"Could only be an episode of his long career as a musician but Copeland has just made love to the Salento and his music, so as to continue that experience."

And we thought that licking cymbals was a big deal.
In Dallas, the only game that really mattered was in the word gamelan.

Mary, here's the sentence in the original Italian:

"Poteva essere soltanto un episodio della sua lunga carriera di musicista ma Copeland ci ha messo poco ad innamorarsi del Salento e della sua musica, tanto da voler proseguire quell'esperienza."

It shows up in several Italian on-line news articles, including the one I posted in the links section. I feel a little bad for the person who tried to rewrite it in English. The site had pages in several languages in an honest attempt to spread music and cultural news to as many people as possible.

I know you know the meaning, it's very understandable but I asked italian friend, Paolo to translate it, helping the translators of this world hehehe
"This could be only an episode of his long musical carrear, but Copeland, in few time fall in love of Salento (a region of Italy PUGLIA) and it's music, and for this reason he want to continue this musical experience."

Thanks for your portuguese link from Expresso. I have another link with Vittorio impressions about Loulé, right away to link section

much love
