I just noticed (cuz Gert kindly pointed it out to me) that Gert has posted a Fiction Plane interview from a few months ago on his culturclub website:

http://www.culturclub.com/muziques/vipr ... o_1-6.html

The interview is translated into French, but non-French-speakers can still flip through the pages and admire Joe Sumner's dazzling choice of headgear.

Ha! I don't remember exactly why you were unable to join us for the Christmas-Party FP show @ Khyber in Philly back in '07 (seems like you were ill or had a family commitment), but Mr. Sumner sported this same chapeau.

Tanks for the memories!! (and the linky - Gert's doing fine things over there...)

He really likes that crazy headgear. I think there is a name for those hats and they are very expensive... can anyone help me out here?

I know he had one when we saw him in Philly, but it was a different design.

Good grief! Go to the last page of the interview and scroll down to the bottom picture. Are those callouses on Pete's hand? Looks horrible!

Great pictures and a great hat. He is a handsome lad; perhaps even more so than his daddy.

That headgear or hat is an "avantgardde" version of peruvian andean hat called "Chullo" that indeginous people used in the Andes... "Dior's" british fashion designer "John Galliano" (by the way, my last surname is Galiano  ) visited Peru twice and inspired in peruvian colorfull and indigenous clothes for their collections at the begining of this century...

I gave Stewart, in Santiago de Chile, three "Chullos" one for him - that he personally chose, and the rest were for Andy and Sting... So, perhaps his son Joe liked it and bought one similar but fashionable 8)

this is the most similar Stewart chose from the three "Chullos" I gave for THE POLICE:

those are the ones similar than Dior's Designer John Galliano version of peruvian "Chullos":

Actually, I think a Fiction Plane fan got that for Joe as a gift due to the song he wrote and recorded...called "Chicken In A Box."
