Has anyone started looking into hotel rooms for La Jolla yet? I just started looking and almost freaked out. Its by the ocean so rooms will not be cheap...unless someone knows something I don't or whatever. I logged onto la jolla information site and hit the hotels link and WOW.
Let me know what you all find out and shoot me an email please. I am probably just gonna do the 5 1/2 hour drive from Vegas.
Thanks Nutters...
Shan

Look for something outside of La Jolla and away from the beach. It won't be as picturesque, but it'll be cheaper. Do you have AAA? A lot of hotels offer a discount for AAA members.

There's a scuba diving flophouse a couple miles from the airport that's clean, comfy, right on top of some restaurants and even waterfront:

it's about $120 a night or so. I'll probably crash here - looks to be about 10 miles from the Summerfest box office...
it's not deluxe by any means, but it's also not $$$$. That said, the rooms are pretty big, they've got a fridge/microwave in each, etc.
What days are we mostly coming in/leaving? I'll probably fly in on the 20th so as not to miss the show due to flight delay...then leave late the 22nd...barring some other Nutter plan.

I'm in on the 21st early AM b/c I'm flying back to Chicago from a conference on the 20th. Will tailor departure to whatever local plans we come up with
.
ETA: Here's a place near La Jolla that I stayed recently for a conference:

Super-spendy, but completely and utterly gorgeous. Wonder how many folks we can pack in a room ...

I'm up for sharing. I wonder sometimes if it would be cost effective to get a junior suite and just really pack it with nutters? More cost effective, perhaps, than getting two or three rooms and sharing?
Just a thought.

I suck - super light sleeper and *everything* wakes me up, so no room share unfortch - but I'm renting a car and can damn sure run the bus if we can coordinate flight times.

I'm already hooked up with roomies too, sorry folks! (ones who can bear my obnoxious sleep noises without earplugs)
Not sure what hotel. I'm just going with the flowwwww. I know that I'm flying out on the 19th and back on the 23rd.
The scenery looks so beautiful out there. I can't wait to do some sightseeing!
Jean, are you going to dive while you're out there?

I'm heading out the weekend before to spend time with family before the Nutters descend. Heading home on Sunday, 8/23.
I'll be ready to play when y'all get there!

I'm kinda thinking about it, actually. Last time I was there I went cage diving with white sharks, which completely ruled, but I looked and all the trips for August are booked.
Apparently there are a few local operators that do trips out to some underwater park in San Diego Cove. I'll probably make a few phone calls and see what's avail. Looks like they have some righteous snorkeling going too, actually....dunno if others might be interested....

Ooooooo! That snorkeling does look great! I'd even do the sharks if you come with me for support.

I've always wanted to swim the cove, and glad to snorkel. Not gonna be scuba certified by then, though.

OK, looks like a few people are interested. What day would we want to do this? I'm not sure the 21st would be a great idea, since there may be logistics involved and I for damn sure don't want to miss Stewart's show due to sitting in a traffic jam somewhere.
22nd? 20th?

Because of work travel I'm not arriving until late morning on the 21st, so I'd go for 22nd.
