WHAT IF: FOOS Presented STEW STOCK!

Daydreaming to Outlandos today at the Gym, I wondered why Stewart doesn't tour like Ringo does. With the great musicians from his era and after, touring and playing some classic rock songs.

With the proper encouragement, I don't have any problem envisioning this actually taking place.

So, Whereas Ringo brings out Joe Walsh, John Entwistle, Gary Brooker, etc:

STEW brings out:

Dave Grohl
Tom Morello
Mike Einziger
Jack Bruce (If he's not on tour with Ringo)
Les Claypool
Trey Anastasio
Ben Folds
Josh Homme
Paul Westerberg
Mike Watt


It would be like a 60's Hootenanny, but with more Mosh potential.

Haven't had a good mosh in a while. It would be really nice if this happened, Dan, but it would need to go down while my health insurance is still paid.

Don't get me wrong. I'd camp out to get tickets to see Stewart back up a supergroup consisting of members of Foghat, Scritti Politti, the Jonas Brothers, and Bananarama. I'd stand in the rain to see Stewart do a ten minute triangle solo. But based on his performance in Stanley Clarke's Night School DVD, I'd say Stewart is best when the stage is less cluttered. He needs some musical room to be Stewart. I think that's why he's at his best in the trio format (Police; Oysterhead). In the context of a trio, he's godly. On the stage with 20 other super egos, he's MERELY fucking incredible.

Thinking about this, I think the format would work best with artists that I would like to hear Stewart playing their material.

So:

Dave Wakling of The English Beat

Or How about Prince on guitar and they play some Hendrix

Elvis Costello (I love Stewart on Watching the Detectives from Spectacle)

Les and/or Trey so they can play some Oysterhead

However, there's room for your idea in my idea.

I don't think you are quite getting the concept.
Because I haven't been clear. Let me clarify.

Ringo is merely an Entertainer (And a hell of a Drummer.)

Whereas our Stewart is a Composer. So the gig would be kinda different. He'd get to use his big brains as much as his brawn. Of course, there would be lots of gong.

I envision him taking the helm on tune selection, arrangements, setlists, etc. Kinda picking and choosing the players as he sees fit the arrangement. If you will: playing the players as if they themselves were instruments.

You know we'd get to hear some Klark Kent!

As for Jack Bruce being a knob, I guess you could be right.
He's not overrated though. Riff Polyphony in a rock trio: that is Jack Bruce.

I just picked him, 'cause I thought: Good Bass Player, Sings Hi, probably less of a tool than Sting.

Maybe this crew should have Bruce Thomas then.

Hmmm, you've got me thinking, what would I endure?
