I just cannot contain myself. For the past 2 days, I have been listening to a recording of the Andy Summers Trio from Aachen, Germany from February 11, 2001. Dennis Chambers on drums.

OH.

MY.

GAWD!!!

It is so fricking AMAZING I cannot stop listening to. Especially track 5 - "Evidence."

I've always liked Dennis Chambers, but this show had converted me into a true lover of his drumming.

I highly recommend to EVERYONE who has any appreciation in drums to seek out this recording.

As an aside, when I saw Andy on this tour, he had Toss Panos on drums. He was ok, but nowhere near Dennis' level.

...yeah, I'd been listening to him since a couple of early '90s John Scofield albums (around '90 and '91 I think... I remember one of them was called Loud Jazz)... There's a live Parliament album he's on, P-Funk All-Stars Live, which is good too... There's also a Steely Dan live album with good Dennis playing on it, Alive In America... alot of good stuff on YouTube as well...

Recent live Steely Dan with Keith Carlock is also really, really good. I am not a fan of Steely Dan in general, but I do find myself listening to them just for the great drumming.

Dennis was one of the judges at our local Guitar Center drum-off last fall. I had no idea who he was at the time. I've watched him play since then. He's a freak on the drums! Wish I'd had a clue back then! I'll have to keep an ear out for more recordings of him.

Is that recording of Andy in 2001 available somewhere other than on Dime? Policefans.org in the members section of the forum has a show in Germany in 2001 but it appears to be a different show.

ETA: the one on policefans.org is different, 10-26-2001 / Frankfurt / GERMANY. May not even be the same band since it is different time of the year.

Sorry. I was hoping that Agroovie1 would see my post and gigasize it. Didn't happen.

Holy smokes, Dennis Chambers is a monster on drums. I was in a record store years ago minding my own business when "Pick Hits" off "Pick Hits Live" by the John Scofield Band absolutely *erupted* through the sound system. I was so blown away within about 30 seconds that I staggered over to the nearest sales clerk, pointed to a speaker hanging from the ceiling and asked may I please have a copy of THAT. Turns out that tune is only the tip of the iceberg.

On a somewhat related note, I finally got to see Vinnie Colaiuta play live last week, backing Jeff Beck, which was an utterly thermonuclear experience. Don't miss that tour if it comes your way.
