Homemade Police Ringtones and other safe iPhone Hacks

Yo,
Knowing that many of the faithful here are tech-savvy to varying degrees, and having seen quite a few iPhones out on the road last year, I had to share these pages:

Create ringtones for your iPhone from all those awesome Police tracks you already own! Free!

I'm currently hearing the riff from Deathwish every time my phone rings.

:)

But that wasn't enough for me. I wanted to customize text message sounds, email sounds, and other things. And there's a non-destructive, non-warranty-voiding method called 'jailbreaking'. Not the same as unlocking your phone, you can't use it with another carrier, but you can access the file structure of the iPhone and change the sound files and graphics files to your liking.

There are excellent instructions on how to do this here:

And here:

Thanks to these amazing instructions, and some cool downloadable themes from http://modmyi.com I now have a cool custom iPhone screen, AND:

When I get a new text message, the opening fill from "Jamie's Crying" plays.
(You know, the one Tone Loc stole.)

When I get a new email, I hear the 'Ton. He de be ge de' snare riff from CSLY.

And when I get a voicemail, "Da duh Da... Chang!" the first couple of notes from WOTM.

Love it! I didn't have to go blackberry just to get Stew on my phone. :)

Psssst...there's also a program called IToner that'll transfer sound files to your IPhone.

I usually edit my songs in Garage Band or Audacity, then transfer 'em over. Thanks for the info, tho...other options always welcome.

Yeah. But you have to pay for that! And, it doesn't give you the ability to customize system sounds, other alerts, etc.

I agree though, editing files in an actual editor is preferable.
