Instructions for donating to support nutters' Melanoma Walk

Hey, all.

This weekend some of the nutters are doing the Safe from the Sun Melanoma Walk for the Melanoma International Foundation. ( http://tr.im/iczD ) Last year the team walked as the Friends of Leroy Coolbreeze in honor of Ian Copeland; this year the they walk as the Nutters for Life in honor of copeland_girl5's melanoma fight (and rockin' wins http://tr.im/icze ).

Sorry to start another thread about it, but I know that because of the way that the donation system is working this year, there's been a problem with people trying to make donations that are properly credited to the Nutters for Life team, and I didn't want instructions on how to beat the system to get lost in the shuffle.

SO

For anyone who would like to make a donation to support the Nutters for Life in the MIF Safe from the Sun Walk this weekend:

Go to this page:

https://www.z2systems.com/np/clients/mi ... &test=true

See that instruction at the top of the page that says "If you have an account with us, please login here to donate"? Ignore it. It lies. As soon as you log in, it screws up your ability to donate to a particular team. So blast pass that instruction as if you've never seen it before.

Instead, fill out the rest of the form on the page I just linked above. If you have an account already, you can probably put in your established user name and password in the appropriate fields and it should work -- but the way that I know that it will definitely work is if you create a new Login Name and Login Password. Just make something up. You never have to actually use the extra account if you don't want to -- you just need *something* in those Login Name and Login Password fields so that you can finish off the rest of the page correctly.

[If you've signed up previously with a particular email address already, the system may flag you to use a different one. I don't know. Just be prepared in case it happens. The key to all of this craziness is that you need to not be logged in ahead of time to make the form work.]

Fill in the whole page (amount, username, password, real name, address, etc.). Skip over the Memorial or Honorarium Gift section, but at the pulldown menu at the bottom of the page (just above the Submit button) next to the line that says "Credit this donation to this team:" -- at that pulldown menu, choose Nutters For Life.

Hit Submit (which should really say Next). On the next screen, you will then add your credit card info, and the money that you donate will be credited to the correct team.

And there was much rejoicing.

So recap: the key is DO NOT LOG IN ahead of time. Just go straight to this page:

https://www.z2systems.com/np/clients/mi ... &test=true

fill it out, hit Submit, fill out the next page, and voila.

Thanks to any and all for the generosity and support. And as GinaSuperCat might say,

GO TEAM GO!

Bless you, DM. Off to cross-post around.

FWIW, I got a VERY quick response back regarding my comments on their donation system this year. You really have to give them credit for being on the ball with fielding questions and the such.

---------------------------

Good Morning, Nicole ~

First let me say that we appreciate your feedback and are sorry for the challenges that you have faced with the registration system. We are aware that there are some glitches in our system that need to be worked through for next year. Unfortunately, the Active.com system that we used last year is very expensive and their fees increased this year. To give you an example, for each $25 that is donated, $5 would go to Active.com just for processing the donation. We felt really uncomfortable with that, so we felt the need to develop our own, custom registration system. Any registration/donation system is highly complex and takes time to fine tune. We will absolutely be meeting with our IT team after the event to de-brief and discuss what needs to be done to makes things run more smoothly next year. We appreciate the support that Nutters for Life has shown us and hope you will continue to be patient with us as we grow.

Happy to help. I only wish I had thought to post my findings sooner.

That's what I suspected. 20% is a significant chunk of change, especially for a relatively small group; I wouldn't be comfortable with that either, so I'm glad for their decision, despite the chaos.

MIF really is a dedicated group of people with some great programs; seems that their specialty just ain't technogeekitude.

Thanks for posting this Kel. The new system does suck. I understand the need for them to switch, though. Buuuuutttt..... Hopefully this'll help enable some more Nutter donations.

Looks like we've got 10 people registered...woooooooooooooo!!! The weather for Eastern PA is supposed to be nice on Sunday. And if Villanova wins on Saturday night, the campus is going to be electric.

Go Nutters!!

vespa has actually been (neurotically) worried about this all week - as in, if they win, if they're going to kick MIF out of the gym there or something for a pep rally or other school related events.

I seriously doubt they could change plans on a major event like this, but, still. Something worth keeping in mind!

Couldn't send my donation yet because of said glitches, no more username and password, requested, no answer etc, etc. I wonder if they are using the same designer as FaceBook.
