Police trivia question: how many Top 10 hits did they have?

Any chance anyone out there knows off the top of his/her head how many of the Police's singles reached the Top 10? (Or happens to own a book titled _All of The Police's Top Ten Hits Listed Alphabetically_ ?)

I'm not real picky about whose chart (US, UK, etc) -- I'm just trying to get an idea of how many of the Police's singles made it into the Top 10 somewhere and would very much like to avoid having to look up every single single one by one if at all possible. I'm happy to take even a close, verifiable approximate in lieu of a definite number.

Edit: Now that I think about it, I'll take a Top 20 or Top 40 number instead as well. Whichever's easiest to find and sounds good.

Crappity. I've been working on this for the Wiki and could tell you all the dirt on which Grammy awards and when...anyway, I've got some bookmarks on the charts also. Thanks, DD -- annoyingly, the Billboard site is dreadful. There's no clear indication on what links to what, and information is separated by week (hence multiple listings for a single song). I started out there but determined that (if need be) rewriting the sentence is a better idea than navigating that site.

And thanks for that link, Schmaff. That certainly helps. I used to own a book that was nothing but the Top 40 charts from the beginning of time til whenever it was published which had a killer index. It was outdated as soon as it hit print, but I am hating myself for having gotten rid of it years ago.

Basically, cause I need to do this anyway, here's some crunching. All these are stats for the chart "Billboard Hot 100" and are straight off Billboard.com (which gets its data from Neilsen Soundscan, according to SS' homepage). There's one link for each song that'll at least get you the chart peak position & weeks. There are (gasp) 50-some pages of results, tho, mostly because of the Puff Daddy remix hitting about ten different charts for twenty or so weeks apiece.

I count six top 10 singles, tho "Spirits" came painfully close at #11. And "EBYT" holding a spot on the "Adult Contemporary Recurrent" chart over the span of a decade ought to count for something...

Roxanne: Peak position: 32 (weeks on chart: 13)
Message: Peak position: 74 (weeks on chart: 7)
De Do Do Do: Peak position: 10 (weeks on chart: 21)
Don't Stand: Peak position: 10 (weeks on chart: 18.)
ELTSDIM: Peak position: 3 (weeks: 19)
Spirits (the single): Peak: 11 (weeks: 13)
Secret Journey: Peak: 46 (weeks: 3)
EBYT: Peak: 1 (weeks: 22)
KOP: Peak: 3 (weeks: 16)
Sync 2: Peak: 16 (weeks: 13)
Wrapped: Peak: 8 (weeks: 7)
DSSCTM '86: Peak: 46 (weeks: 9)
Roxanne '97 - Puff Daddy Remix: Peak: 59 (weeks: 13)

Other items of note:

* EBYT went to #23 on the "Hot Singles Recurrent" chart in 1997/1998 when the Puff Daddy song "Missing You", which sampled it heavily, came out. Weeks on chart: 20.

Also, it charted on a few other categories, most notably "Hot Adult Contemporary Recurrent", which it hit in 1997, and stuck around. Peak: 5; weeks: Who knows? Its most recent listing, for this week (April 9, 2009) lists the number of weeks as "247". We could probably parse this out if anybody really wants to know, but for now, just realize it hit that chart after the Puff Daddy thing and has pretty well held a spot on it for a decade.

* "Roxanne '97" also charted in categories like "Hot R&B/Hip Hop Singles" and "R&B/Hip Hop Airplay."

* A tune called "When The World Is Runnin Down (You Can t Go Wrong)" by "Different Gear Vs. The Police" went to #7 on the Hot Dance Club Play chart back in 2000. Weeks: 8 (Note: I have a copy of this and can post it if anybody wants it)

Yeah, I'm hoping Wombat or Deitmar or somebody runs by soon and can fact-check some of this. I'm pretty sure I transcribed accurately off Billboard, but who's to say whether their servers have been checked recently regarding data that's 20-some years old.

(I gotta tell you, the Roxanne '97 issue worries me a little - it's all over the place as far as "weeks on chart". At one point it's 45, then 54, then 100, then 150, now 254...I suspect what happened is it charted for a while, then fell off, then came back on, which made the "weeks" counter restart. But still. It'd be good to have that explicated somewhere.)

I've gotta look up those peak dates anyway, so I'll be sure to post any discrepancies I find.

That always seemed to get a lot of airplay, at least on LA radio.
I think if I remember correctly I saw the last performance of SPIRITS, the first Vegas show. I think it was dropped after that, the next week in Anaheim it was gone, and never came back.
I really enjoyed it in the set, more than Demo or IS, but that's just my $.02.
I also think Ghost got a little shortchanged with only (2)songs for so long until Demo came in, but again my $ .02

Of course if they had just thrown Darkness in or One World.......
