For those of you in the states that get vh1 classic, they are airing a Police concert on a show called 'BBC Crown Jewels'. It's from Hatfield Polytechnic probably in 1978 (Deitmar I'm sure knows the date). It's a fun show, excellent quality video and audio and definitely a keeper if you can DVR or Tivo it, it is being replayed a nu,ber of times this weekend.

Stewart's drum set is a shadow of it's future self, a 5 piece blue Tama with a hihat, ride and 2 crash cymals (one of which he beats into submission in the middle of the show and a roadie has to come out and fix it mid-song)

Rock Goes to College at BBC is The Hatfield Polytechnic Concert in UK, a great 1979 concert and first time they played live "Message in a bottle"

I have a DVD of the same show here in Lima - Peru - South America!!!!

Thanks for the info, Marshmellow. I wouldn't have known about this had you not mentioned it. My Tivo is recording it while I'm at work.

It was great. I think I've seen it, or parts of it before. WAAAAAAAAAAAY back I had a bootleg of it in cassette. I'm sure there are cd's out there on ebay.

It's also the first time they ever play "Message" live. I actually have the concert on vinyl record and it's right from the sound board. It's the Police..early, live, and raw. No background singers. Just the way I like it!

There are several bootleg CD versions of this gig, but be careful: some of them have the wrong venue and/or date mentioned !
