What are you listening to?

Lots of Clannad's "Coinleach Ghlas An Fhómair" today. I can't understand a word, but it's a really effective song when you're in a particular mind for melancholy.
Dramatic highlights & a unique musical cosmos. Guaranteed.

Bet you hated missing him at Merlefest!

I've been breaking out the Genesis, trading one supergroup for another!

Just popped in SNZ's Perrennial favorites because I just found out they will be playing in Asheville the weekend after Bonnaroo...tix only 14$ so I snagged some...will break the news to hubby when he gets home from his meeting by telling him we can stop at one of his favorite restaurants for dinner on the way to the show...

Ya it makes little 'sense', but I can sometimes soften the blow of having to tell him I spent a bit of money by promising to spend a little more <boggle>

Dirty Martini,

You're doing it again, I will now have to dust off my Clannad Past & Present CD.

If you like Gaelic you might also find a band called Runrig worth a listen. Especially Once In A Lifetime Live CD

HA! Must be the Jersey connection. :P

I'm not a fan of the post-Enya, New Agey Clannad stuff (although I admit that there are in fact times when Enya is appropriate), but I really like the early folksy/traditionally stuff. Something about "Coinleach . . . " tears my heart out every time.

Thank you for the recommendation, Animal! I added Runrig to my Wish List.

Gina, do let us know later how the SNZ show was. What a bargain price!

Next up: Flogging Molly!

I was listening to 'That Voice Again' by Peter Gabriel today. is that Manu Katche drumming on it? It's bloody awesome.

Mostly been listening to the mix CDs I'm making for Dive - can't reveal the tracklisting here though or it will spoil the surprise!

Thanks to Dietmar I'm currently listening to the Police show I saw in Austin back in Nov. 1983. I remember some of it vividly and other parts I don't recall at all (them playing Hole In My Life and Murder By Numbers for instance). Anyway, interesting to listen to 24 years later.

I used to listen to Red Rain over and over and over.

I love the beginning where the hihats start.

That was the song where I thought "yes!" hihats alone are an instrument.

After that a musician I knew invited me down to a studio with my hihat because he had just signed a deal with Sony Canada. This was in maybe...1990 or so? Jeeze I don't remember. Anyway it was Kevin Jordan and the CD was No Sign of Rain. The song was Traces of You.

That is the only "studio" album I am on, y'know, with a record contract and all. It didn't last though...Canada was a really hard sell so many years back.

It was because of Copeland that it even occured to me that I could add hihats to horrible programmed drums....ewww...makes me shudder now.
He wrote good mellow songs.

again "Copie" was the inspiration.
