Okay, here's the latest scoop on Operation Dietmar Comes to NY!
Monday: I will meet Dietmar at JFK at roughly 2:30 p.m., and we will head into the City to meet DM and Indygirl. The four of us plan to have dinner at Uncle Nick's (50th St. and 9th Ave.) at 6 p.m. If any locals or early-arriving travelers wish to join us, please let me know and I'll add to the reservation.
Note: this is all contingent upon Dietmar's flight arriving on time, so we'll need to be somewhat flexible and keep in touch. Fingers crossed.
Tuesday: Weather forecast looks good!
Our day begins around noon at the much-heralded New York CityPolice Museum (100 Old Slip). This is way downtown, near the South Street Seaport. For those traveling in to Penn Station, subway directions from there to the museum can be found here:
http://www.hopstop.com/
After the museum, we can walk up to the seaport for a bit, and then head over to the Mysterious Bookshop (58 Warren St - about a 15 minute walk).
By now, even with the inevitable snacks along the way, we're probably hungry, so we head up to Lombardi's (NYC's first pizzeria -- 32 Spring St. - about a 20 minute walk).
After pizza and a beer, we can stroll through SoHo up to Bleeker Street, stopping at Bleeker and Mott to pay homage to what used to be CBGB's, eventually heading up to Washington Square Park.
(If Dietmar is still in search of the perfect crime novel, we can get him over to Partners and Crime on Greenwich St.)
When it's time to head up to Fat Annie's we can hop on the F train at 4th St., getting off at Herald Square.
I'll bring maps/directions for all stops on this tour! Don't forget to wear comfortable shoes!!
Wednesday: Weather is iffy for this day, so I'm thinking indoors, with outdoor options.
We can meet at the steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art (5th Ave at 82nd St) at noon. Once we've had enough culture, weather permitting, we're right at Central Park, which is good for hours of cheap entertainment! (And if we cross the park over to the West Side, we can look up Sting and Trudie and see if they'd like to have us for cocktails!)
I'm checking out some restaurant/pub options on the Upper West Side, but I'll have to add those tomorrow.
Please jump in with any thoughts, suggestions, heckles, etc.
Can't wait to see everyone.
