also in, with a *bump*

(got, er, hit by a white shark the other day whilst cage diving...here's hoping this bump has that kind o' energy...:))
 Wow!

I got severely cuddled today by a black cat while watching tv. Sorry, but that's the best I can do.

Yeah, can't wait to get home to my own black cat (have we had this discussion? Cause I think everyone needs at least one. Black cat, I mean. Mine's named after Samuel L. Jackson, because really: what cooler cat is there?)

It's all good, Rosie. Just don't hurt yourself on the way to the bed...I'm queen of tripping and braining myself after I've had a couple...

[Edit: Here's the shark that hit me, a few seconds before it reared up..it was a medium-sized male named Squire...truth be told I think it was going for some bait, a gnarly big tuna head, and missed...

(yes, they name the sharks...there are a slew of scientists out on Isla Guadalupe, where these fish live, that are doing a bunch of research on them. They have to name 'em, to keep 'em all straight. Personal rant: They are not at all mindless eating machines. They are in fact incredibly endangered. And they are really beautiful, in the flesh...</rant>

Squire comes back for another look:
Is this organization rated at any kind of site? I know there are sites/reports for non-profit & charities, and they rate how much of each dollar actually goes to the actual cause. Just wondering if this type of organization would have something similar.

Just wondering!
Hi Krok,

Sorry I wasn't able to get back to you sooner on this.

MIF is registered as a 501(c)(3) charity by the US federal government and has received a positive rating by GuideStar, a group that evaluates the efficicacy of non-profit organizations.

I think what speaks most for MIF is the fact they work closely with the National Cancer Institute (NCI). (The NCI is the National Institute of Health's principal agency for cancer research.)

In addition, their Scientific Advisory Board is comprised of leading cancer researchers from top-ranked facilities around the world. I think their involvement with the MIF says much about its credibility and effectiveness within the scientific community.

Finally, MIF has been recognized for its patient education and advocacy by Oncolink, an internet resource for cancer information affiliated with the Cancer Center at University of Pennsylvania.

I hope this addresses your concerns. Let me know if you need anything else.

Aw, hell, you guys. I really appreciate the props, but I have completely derailed this very worthy thread.

I'll go start another OT one with the shark pix, and folks can talk about Flipper in there if they're so moved...

Thanks for the info on the charity, NancyR.
