I was just thinking the same thing (re: the locales) - at least for a first outing, yes? (Here I am, all newbie, coming up with ideas & stuff - so obnoxious of me.)

Kimmi dear, I am not American, and also work for Canadian companies, love Canada to pieces, come once a year and would love to move to Vancouver Island.

However, it is a fact that Canada is part of North America. Usually when I say American I mean Mexicans, Brazilian, Guatemalan and Inuit as well..
