What are the chances we get this thread back to being about constructive ideas for Gio? Just a thought....
That's what I keep trying to say.

Are we having oranges at half time?

Smax, You have a wonderful way with words. Can I borrow aggressive-passive wankery and twat stick (which rhymes nicely with fuck-wit) if I need to? lol:

OT - I love the way Smax uses the English language 8) Still giggling at aggressive-passive wankery and twat-sticks!

As you were.

*sigh*

I tried to keep my earlier comments here focused on what Gio was originally asking about - proposed and possible ways to improve/split up the board into some new sub-forums, an idea I still wholeheartedly support. And I support this idea regardless of whether we are talking about

off-topic/
musician-related/
Stewart-is-cute (thank you Dietmar)/
swearing boards (I miss Phaty)/
Stewart-specific posts

from ANYBODY, old or new. I've heard from too many former regular posters who feel put off by the complete Jumble-Of-Topics as it is now and is continuing to be, and who have dropped away from the site because of that (and I hate, hate, hate even beginning to veer into The Lurkers Support Me In Email territory, but...well. Facepalm. I'm sorry.) I would have supported this idea back last year before any particular new folks have joined, and I support it now in exactly the same way.

I do go on the defensive - and then the aggression - when people whom I have known, on-line/in-person/whatever for a long time, are being unjustly attacked and in an extreme being threatened with physical violence (which, I'm sorry, is what telling someone you'd like to "punch them in the face" and insulting their physical appearance boils down to.) That's internet bullying. That's when my breaking point is hit. That's when it begins to feel to me as though this whole board is turning in to a public (or, actually, Stewart-focused) cry for attention by a few people who have shown very little interest or effort in even *trying* to listen what some of us crusty old dinosaurs are suggesting or talking about--ever mind ever engaging in any of the actual on topic posts like Jeff's great recent posting, or tj's "Dear Stewart." It's like, if it's not about you personally? Then you don't want to engage or even hear it. Do you even care or listen to Stewart's/The Police's music? With some folks I really end up wondering about that, given how they basically never talk about it here, in lieu of custom underwear designs and innuendo about blow jobs.

And that makes me sad, angry, and frustrated.

I hate seeing baiting and fighting on here- it makes me cringe. This has, for the most part, been a safe haven of CRAZINESS for me for the last 5 years. And they've been a hell of a 5 years for those who know me, good, bad, beautiful and ugly.

It's unfair to say that some of us have not tried to welcome Jemma and other new people, and frankly, I can think of a handful of post-Tourzilla new people (one just posted above) who have been MORE than welcomed and I am so grateful they are around, they reinvigorate things.

I was HAPPY to see new blood and interesting things going on here. But, what bothers me is that it seems that if you don't play along as expected, if you only want to participate in certain things, you get slammed. There is at least as much slamming BY new people going on as TO new people. It's pretty sickening.

Yep, we can come off as hypocrites. There are pics of some red-head in SCnet undies, giant blow up dolls, and well, frankly visions has had the corner on the THUNK market since way before my time :) And she does it so well, we don't even have to comment. Just sit back and take it all in. (I can be deplorable too. Does it mean less if I don't broadcast it???)

I don't want ANYONE to go away. And I don't want anyone, old or new, threatening anyone. But you know what? I don't want to go away either and lately, all I want to do is come in, get my SC fix and check on music and get out. Which is sad, cause this place has been my home.

As far as changes, change can be scary but good- I like a lot of the suggestions.

Where the hell is Phaty btw? This requires a whole lotta FFS!!!!!

For anyone who has arrived recently and is genuinely feeling 'got at' I really do recommend reading Schmaffy's post, and Moonstone's (both in this thread). They sum it up well.

I was part of the Reunion Tour announcement invasion, which must have felt like screaming hordes of lunatics showing up in the lounge and dismantling the furniture to those who were here already. The 'old timers' were incredibly good about the chaos, and generous with info/assistance. They were also (sometimes) a bit pissed off, which is understandable. If you show up in someone's lounge and rearrange it they'll be cool with some changes and tell you about the stuff they can't stand. The choice, as a new arrival, is whether to accept that this isn't a lounge where polka-dot cushion covers with plaid carpet is going to fly, or argue about it interminably and to no good effect. I'd go for the acceptance route myself, and maybe sneak in a bit of polka-dot/plaid over time.

(Soft furnishings analogy ends here.)

It makes sense to get a 'feel' for the place on arrival, so if nothing else this thread provides a strong argument for a 'Hello! Welcome! Here are some tips.' room, though if I was in Team Italia's shoes right now I'd probably just say 'fuck it' and eat cake.

Hey vespa the last medical story you were telling us about was something about feet exploding with maggots or something!

Don't be so scarce! I miss your hilarity.
