I'm hoping to meet up with some of you folks. I'm going to the Atlantic City show. I hoped to go to the Garden shows, but will be away that week and I missed out on tickets for the October MSG show.
tonydrums--I know vespapod will be at AC (with the Flag, I believe?), so hopefully you boys can meet up there! I can't make that show for work, sadly...

Hey guys I am sooooo glad you had a great time- and envious of the get-together! I was still such a newbie at staples and dodger and so missed any kind of get together-if there was one- would have been great to hang with demogal and daweasel(if only just to say fuck you weasel in person).
Oh well, it will have to wait until leg #2 or the Konvention or some krazy oysterhead show or special appearance- but I am sure it WILL happen!

re:indoor/outdoor. have only been to staples and dodger SO FAR( boston, cardiff and nz here i come) but the outdoor show was far superior.
sound had serious issues at staples and the lighting depends SO much on the low res screens at the top and sides of the stage- I think the indoor show looks like hell. But, it's one of those things that used to be my job so i can't help but notice. Didn't ruin my experience but I noticed a HUGE difference.

The sound company is from good ole Lititz PA so they had BETTER had a good night in PHL and in Hershey tonight! Otherwise, those boys might be looking for new gigs! ;)I am sure you guys benefited from having the big cheeses there for that one.

One last thing- I think the flag arrows are hilarious and such a good idea- let's put it this way, whether he saw the flag or not, Stewart knew there were multiple Teams in Tube Socks out there routing for him.

I'm sure when he catches up with all the threads(ok, never gonna happen cause we can't keep up) he'll see what a coveted position flag-bearer is and chortle!

just remember, if you can't be the flag, you can be a flag supporter!

Philly was unreal. We were in row 28 of Field section BB on Sting's side, probably 75 yards from the stage. They were great. Sting's voice was in top form and he went for it several times on some of the high notes. This is definitely a show that they did not go through the motions on.

My wife and I said that the crowd was pumped and they were feeding off of it and vice/versa. The wonderful thing to see was that they were all having fun with each other, the crowd and the music. You could see real joy on all 3 of their faces, which not to sound corny, but was touching. They came out for Next To You like the Marx Brothers, hunched over all hudled together and goofy. Nice to see.

The energy I felt was there except for the DSSCTM which has been discussed. The only song that felt "off" to me was De Do Do Do. Other than that, I think it would have been hard pressed to find three better musicians on a stage anwhere in the USA last night that were tearing it up and taking names later.

AND YES....whoever said the Sun God smiled on Philly was right. We all thought severe thunderstorms were going to hit and it did indeed turn out to be a cool, rain free atmosphere.

My final words are, believe the hype, they are that good and anybody who has not had the chance to see them yet and is going too, will walk away very satisfied and happy :)

BTW, for your amusement, two of these:

are what poor Stewart had to put up with last night.

Definitely.

Last night was one of those nights where I really loved my city -- we are truly a music town, and when Sting challenged us to beat New York on the noise level, you can sure as hell bet we gave it our all!

Oh, and vespapod just had to call and tell me that the local radio stations -- especially WMMR -- have been ALL OVER the concert and raving up the Police today, playing tons of stuff including some live stuff from last night? Rave reviews of the music, the light show, and special mention of the octobans included.

Sell them to us or we will put our asses in our hats.

I'm not sure if we like green eggs and ham or not.

just make with the Fucking live CD of the gigs....OK?

I love live stuff....the old Police Boots are wicked good !

HA! yeah sockii.... i think we did definitely give it our all to beat out the noice level in NY. that was great! as i said, i think the poor girls in front of me wanted to silence me... fuck em. i've been waiting a lifetime girls - deal with it!

the flag arrows are great! and as megan said, at least stewart knew that there were multiple crews out there even if he didn't see the flag. if i were him i would get a huge kick out of seeing the arrows alone! fucking hilarious! DM, you should enclose the arrows with the flag just in case they are necessary at future shows.

Donna and DM: sorry you guys got stuck with the asshats. at least they weren't passing gas! (see phaty's european thread)

oh yeah... kevinc - i totally agree with you on DSSCTM. it was the only song that i wasn't that impressed with. DM - i heard what you were talking about on Bed's too. the beginning was a wash.

DM and others have already covered most of the relevant details from last night's wonderfulness that I couldn't possibly improve upon. Forgive me if I ramble a bit here.

How fantastic it was to meet some of the folks I've been reading on SCdotnet, and (as DM said) to be welcomed so warmly. Thanks, folks. Wish we could have gathered someplace afterwards less frat-boy than McFadden's where I could buy you all a round, and work off some of the show-buzz.

I'd like to add my voice to those who distinguish between the experiences of indoor and outdoor events. Put me down for avoiding stadiums. Jeez, what a assortment of fools getting in the way of enjoying a show.

The floor crowd was indeed weak on demonstrative appreciation, and seemed to run out of enthusiasm steam quickly, except for those of us who were there to *ahem* express. Six-foot-ten Puritan Middle-Manager Dad stood, implacable, in front of me with his arms folded, through half of the show. Perhaps he was taking notes for a support group of some kind.

I'm always happy to be in the presence of skilled musicians while they perform, and consider live music a privilege. This was no different, despite the couple of songs whose arrangements were less than polished. It was a supreme evening. I don't believe I stopped dancing (or drumming/Guitar-Hero-strumming on the chair in front of me) for anything but the bozo who kept coming into our row to bring beers for a lazy fuckwad in the row behind us.

Andy's solo work made me wonder just how much more amazing he could be if he was allowed to truly improvise during solos or transitions. He reminded me of having seen Adrian Belew's work during Bowie's Sound and Vision tour in 1987 (I believe that was the year). What a great way to elaborate upon familiar tunes.

Sting remains the strong performer that the band needs him to be, but I just couldn't connect with him as an on-stage front-man to the degree I did for, say, Steven Tyler or Roger Daltrey. And if he's indeed limiting change and improvisation on this tour's setlist, then he's just being a granny.

Stewart is a fearsome beast. He has increased my appreciation for rock drumming to much more of a degree than Keith Moon ever did. What a joy it is to listen to all the ways this man can mix-and-match. I'd love to tell him that in person someday, but I'm not counting on it.

I was really happy to see how Stewart acknowledged the presence of the flag-pointers, even if Conroy's location was too tough to triangulate.

My voice, feet, and wrists are going to need a day or two more to recover.

My thanks to you all.
