Throwing off the invisibility cloak to delurk and say Hi!
now Ginsberg, though I've never heard of him
Never heard of Allen Ginsberg?!? Get thee to a library, 3/4!

I saw the best minds of my generation destroyed by madness, starving hysterical naked,
dragging themselves through the negro streets at dawn looking for an angry fix,
angelheaded hipsters burning for the ancient heavenly connection to the starry dynamo in the machinery of night,
who poverty and tatters and hollow-eyed and high sat up smoking in the supernatural darkness of cold-water flats floating across the tops of cities contemplating jazz, . . .

(BTW, apologies for the hijack, Lynne.)

Ah, I'm back. No one told me to fuck off, did they? I hate when that happens!

And where's Phaty, anyway? I need some good German insults flung my way.

Hi again Lynne.

Now that I see the full name, it does look familiar.....but I must confess: I am of the MTV and original Nintendo generation (though we did have a 2600 when I was like 5 or something) so I really haven't picked up reading until lately. And even then, I don't have much time to read books as I'm on this FRIGGIN' FORUM all the live long day. I say that with love....

Well damn, aren't you just the little literary geek DM!

Good idea about dusting off the 2600 though I think my older brother might have it. Of course, me being the kind of geek that I am went straight from my last post and found via google the www.atari2600.com page, with all kinds of geeky goodness!! Seeing some of the boxes the games came in brought back all kinds of memories of thumbing through the game selection at the local store, and then playing Pitfall over and over while the 45 of 'Eye of the Tiger' was blaring in the background. I blame my brothers for the torture....

This is a great thread hijack! Helps to overcome the feeling of vulnerability that comes with the delurking.

So can we hook up an Atari at the Konvention to play Pong?

So did I! My fave was always Pitfall. Although when we first got it, I did love Adventure, even if I couldn't always manage to kill that stupid square pixelly dragon. Lynne, you can absolutely take Pong -- that one and Combat used to just annoy me.

SS -- In the haze I missed your question last night. I don't have the "Locomotive" poem memorized, but the rest I can rattle off. But to be fair, these were all pretty standard lit fare -- nothing obscure. I did have to double-check my work a bit on "Howl" since I haven't read it in a long time.

If the Video Game Live concert comes to your town, please check it out. I went and it was so much fun. They start off with Pong! and go through a medley of famous video games and I think Pitfall was in there somewhere. that was my favorite for a long time as well!!!

Here are the list of dates: http://www.videogameslive.com/index.php?s=dates
