OK, just saw the announcement on YouTube. Having been a long time fan of both our boys and VH I feel I can be fairly impartial. This is NOT to say I think these 2 bands are on an even scale musically (or in my heart
).
Diamond Dave is and always has been a hysterical baffoon. He's a great front man and that's part of what made VH so great when he was in it. He's an OK singer and like him or not, everyone knows that signature howl of his. I saw him last fall at a small club. He still entertaining as hell and can still jump and kick.
Having been the big VH fan that I was back in the DLR days (I wasn't into Sammy much and Gary Cherone?? get real, eh!) I'm surprised he didn't go on and on and on.... (and Sting thinks Stewart's hard to shut up...).
SO....no, I don't think ole' Diamond Dave slighted our boys at all. He was simply saying that their tour is intended to be the launching pad for a new VH venture that they hope will go on. Not, the one off this-is-it tour that The Boys are doing.
But, I hope those Van Halen boys aren't deceiving themselves!!!
They may be thinking "Hey those Limey dicks are sold out all over the world! Shiiiit! We can do that!" Don't count your Viagra before they're hatched, Dave! I don't know what the ticket prices are going to be but there's no fuckin' way I'm gonna pay any kind of big bucks to see them!
Their biggest asset is, ironically, also their greatest liability: Eddie.
In the meantime, I'll keep going to hear the most incredible percussionist to ever wear little green shorts
and his brilliant mates.
