Any update on the "Police Around the World" DVD?

Postby plutonic on 16 Aug 2007 22:01

It's my understanding that copies of Around the World on DVD were amongst the goodies given away at the FC show pre party. Conroy? Kellie? Gina? Y'all were there, right?

I had assumed that the presence of those copies meant that a commercial re-release was on its way. Hmmmm....
Um . . . I remember posters and a bunch of CDs . . . . drumheads . . . more posters . . . I distinctly remember Police CDs and Sting solo CDs, but I do not remember any DVDs. But that doesn't necessarily mean there weren't any . . .

Gina's out of town, but maybe Conroy remembers?
or SamburuSunset?
or Dietmar?
My recollection is that somebody on TPT won them. They were DVD-R's in clear a plastic envelope. I distinctly remember it because I own Around the World on VHS, and had been trying to decide whether to buy a VCR to play it, or wait for the DVD. Still waiting.

DVD-Rs in clear plastic?

I honestly don't remember them.

But I'm mildly embarrassed by them.
Dramatic highlights & a unique musical cosmos. Guaranteed.

Hrm....

Well unless I hear otherwise from someone who knows for sure in the next day or so, I'm going to assume that Around the World being officially released is still not happening in the foreseeable future.

>>ep, the following tracks from Les Arenes, Frejus 28/08/80 have been
>>featured in both Police Around The World and Urgh! A Music War.
>>
>>Around The World:
>>Don't Stand
>>De Do Do Do
>>Truth Hits

Since there is a "confirmed rumor" about a "possible release" of the entire Frejus show (audio and/or video), I was speculating about the audio of this show.

Us Police freaks who have heard audio boots from this tour know what The Police sounded like, and know that it was still a fairly basic setup. But on "Around The World", these tracks sound good. Really good. Really good as in post-show overdubbing good, especially the vocals. The performance of "De Do Do Do" in particular stands out, you can hear lines of the chorus that aren't being sung by Sting (he's not at a microphone), yet are in Sting's voice. Yes, I know that Andy and Stew did some backup vocals, but I'm almost certain it isn't them (as some of the shots also show them not at their mics when these 'mystery' vocals occur).

And not just on these Frejus tracks, some of the other tracks on "Around..." also have some interesting vocal fullness/musical embellishments that just don't occur on any other recordings from this tour that I've heard. If you have "Around the World", watch it again and see if you agree.

So is this true? Is it common knowledge that was just not aware of?

Just sent you another e-mail from my work address. let me know if you got it as people tell me that it gets snagged by their spam filter all the time. Something to do with the hyphen in my e-mail address I'm told.

Gio has squashed all my dreams, and Jo Publik won't download his

Only thing I can do is listening to them on ES. He should have done derangements of his songs, Omegaman AND Behind my Camel.
[Stingo would have tried to bury them in the garden, but I would have sent two Oi Skins with Doc Martens threatening to crack more than his ribs  ]

Maybe if you explain exactly the problem you have when trying to download something from gigasize, we can help talk you through the process (as you recall, I posted a gigasize link of the Derangements for you a little while back and I'm willing to do it for you again).
