One example? Armand Sabal-Lecco!
Armand is such a great guy and a great bassist player; I didn't know that much of him since Stewart introduced me to his talent and versatility; he did so much with so many great artists...and he's a really nice person!
I guess thats my only disagreement ... i think about what even the great Jaco would've done with songs like Dazed and Confused or Black Dog when writing them. Yes, its a horrible comparison and probably makes no sense - but its funny to think about it!!
Sure! Totally wrong guy for those tunes.

Joni Mitchell said something great about Jaco. She said that until she worked with him, every bass player wanted to put up a picket fence through her music. When you listen to Hejira, the last thing in the world you think of is structured limitations. 8)

And all that is why I think that a busy bass player -- even a GREAT busy bass player -- with Stewart and Andy would be hideous.

Yep, Weasel. I like the Police as they are, I like Oysterhead as they were (well, maybe with a good singer or with Trey singing most of the songs), I like Animal Logic as they were.

There is a chemistry in band and it can only be reached with THAT one element. See why bands/joke like Asia, Emerson, Lake and Powell, or The Who with Pino Palladino and Jason Bonham do not work. Other groups formed by the shreds of other groups failed.

I know you meant Zak Starkey here, but I get your point and agree.

Seconded. This thread sent me back to my XTC collection today, and I think he's got a nice complementarity, not too busy, to quote da weasel (FTW).
