Best Sting Solo Songs the Police Could Cover?

Postby georgygirl on 10 Jul 2007 04:55

I am not sure, to me Englishman in New York is just Sting's essence...

Maybe, but just maybe, to me sounds like a Police song, "St. Augustine in Hell"

I'd be really interested to hear how some sting songs sounded policified. There are a few Sting songs I really like. I'd love to hear Stew and Andy get hold of some of the ones in quirky time signatures, like 'I Hung My Head' and 'I Was Brought To My Senses'. And 'Fortress...' is blatantly a police song don't you think? I'd kind of like to hear their take on All This Time too.

Hannaha: "Fortress" is very much in the style of a Police song, agreed.

Georgygirl: Glad to see you in the spirit of things. Excuse my ignorance, but what album is "St. Augustine" on?

Matthew: I really think that Andy and Stewart would have done wonders with his early stuff.

Great responses!

i always thought half the material from 'ten summoners tales' would be material stewart and andy could get their teeth into.

'heavy cloud, no rain'.... 'she's too good for me'..... 'seven days'.... they already sound quite 'police' ish.....

[quote="David Herbert"]Hey Jenny,
You are absolutely correct, it's a big WHAT IF??? question.
Seems we both would like to hear the boys' version of "Fortress". I don't have "Soul Cages" but I will have to look up "Jeremiah Blues".
How is this for a scenario: the Police record a new album, half new material, half songs from Sting's solo career. And yes, I understand why people here are going to scream and moan. But what the hell, it's only imagination, doesn't cost anything.

Oh I like it, especially if I can pick the track lists! Sting's song's reHumanized as Police songs. (Sorry I'm listening to Ghosts today. Cha!

Oh and cefirnitely look up Jeremiah Blues, it's good.

Well, is a song from the album 'Ten Summoner's Tales:

7.- "Saint Augustine in Hell" (Sting) – 5:05

How about The Police singing 'Don't Box Me In? (Rumblefish CD)

WARNING!! MAJOR HERESY CONTAINED IN THIS POST!!

This may be cheating a bit, but I would like to hear the Dream of the Blue Turtles version of Shawdows in the Rain. Imagine Stewart just ripping thought that version. (Here's the heresy part) I actually perfer the version on Dream than the ZM version.

Put me down as a heretic as well.

I also love the Bring on the Night version of I Burn for You, as opposed to the Police/Brimstone and Treacle version.

I'd love to hear Stewart drumming on that!

Johnnyjumpstart: with you on "Love is the Seventh Wave".

EQUALIZER: Oh man, that is a killer suggestion. Omar Hakim rips that intro. Rips! I remember learning that groove when taking drum lessions. Instantly recognizeable. Stewart would have some ful with that. I will now defend the original "Shadows", which has a more appropriate feel than the Blue Turtles version (a counterintuitive feel to the lyrics).

IMO the absolute *best* version of Shadows is on the 'Police Around the World', which is provided for your pleasure right here:

Those are my balls...they're on string!!

As far as Stingos songs being Policified, I'd go with Fortress & Jeremiah Blues. There's no doubt in my mind that any of his material would benefit from having Andy and Stewart performing though.
