Stewart: A Few (humble) Suggestions

Postby GinaSuperCat on 07 Jun 2007 06:09

Stewart knows exactly what Bonnaroo is about, no doubt...and as the Roo veteran of the group I'm sure his take of the gig and it's atmosphere will have weight, his efforts to convince the others accordingly have been wel-documented <grin>

Phillip: heh, actually seeing the Police live many times doesn't have the same drawbacks as something that tastes good but is bad for you...it's just all good...it's great music, meeting other fans, having a super-time dancing and cheering, etc....only ad thing is if money runs out! And my point about seeing them live agrees with your point, the Police live are actually anti-spectacle...stripped down, just the three of them jamming...I could never tire of watching Stewart play drums so close that I can physically feel the beats through myself...that's all about the music and nothing about spectacle or the 'show' <grin>

Police as jam band:

One of the best performances I've ever seen/heard from them.

Now THAT'S what I'm talking about.

I love that bass.

What kind is it?

I'm going to guess Ibanez, but don't hold me to it. The bass he's using in the BBC clip is a Fender Jazz Bass, and Andy's playing some kind of Yamaha Les Paul imitation--not their standard guitars in either case, not sure what led to them using those for that show.

Wow, thanks for that great link...that smokes...possibly Bonnaroo'ish (although I'm trying not to get my expectations in any certain directions for there, although it does seem like its cracking up to be THE opportunity for something different) but that song IS already on the set-list...wow does Stewart sound amazing there... <Cheshire grin

Yea that's a great one.

It's one of the few times that Stewarts "delay" on his drums is very, very pronounced. I love when he hits the Octo's with delay...."blop" !

Neato !

I also belive that he was using an Ibanez fretless bass. When I was in a three piece at that time my bass player bought one and....if you don't have a really good ear it can suck, and he did.

Nice synth drum hits Copie !!!! It's like Pac Man sounds!

I play an older bastardized Peavy frettless. Switching back to a fretted bass is like kissing a girl with braces now. bit odd.

that's a fun analogy, duke.

I'm still holding out hope for 'Does Everyone Stare' at 'Roo. Complete with Stewart intro...(if not Stewart vocals...)
Y

soooooo are you saying I need to leave my parachute pants and multicolored Synchronicity jacket complete with the tail that I made out of red yellow and blue electrical tape at the house?

Drat.

I was going to be the belle of the ball

:(
I thought I was the only one who made a sychronicity II jacket! Mine was made out of the plastic banners they use to line the edges of racetracks.

Police playing Dark Star at Bonnaroo? I would die.<<

Same here but something that sick would tear a hole in the space time continuum and sometimes that's not always a good thing but it would be a hell of a ride.

I wonder if they'll stream the show on the Bonnaroo website?

I intend to make it down front right after Ben Harper (he's playing before the Police correct?) and staking me a spot out right down front.
To this day when ever I sit down on a bench, I think of the phrase "group dubya bench."

To get back to the helpful suggestions for Stewart, though:

Here's my constructive criticism:

Please wear some short shorts and tall socks to the show. You can play and gosh darned bpm you want as long as you do that. And what is this obsession with BPM anyway? Didn't the Police begin adding reggae into their music because they were bored with the high speed, energy is everything style of punk? That's at least how I understood it.

er, that's all.

I have the feeling that if Stewart wears short shorts and tall socks any time on this tour we may see it this week...

Depending on how hot it is, I may rock some socks at 'Roo myself...

Do it! I have just the socks:

I am very envious of those going to Bonaroo. But if the hippy jam/band vibe prevails, maybe we'll see Stew rocking these socks:

OK...back on topic...I think there is strong possibility Stew read this thread:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zlhy10HuhuM

Got to check toward the end, before the "reprise". He pulls a "sudden change of tempo". Maybe not the song you'd expect it in, but nevertheless I accept the honor!

They just need some time, and they'll get things sorted out. It's been a LONG time since the last time they did this.

If you're taking credit for tempo changes, I am SO taking credit for the new encore setlist.

(Which, btw, makes me absolutely ecstatic. Thank you, Stewart.)

N.B. -- Everyone please avert your eyes while listening to that ^ clip. The "filmmaker" was obviously riding the Tilt-a-Whirl at the time of recording.
Dramatic highlights & a unique musical cosmos. Guaranteed.
