OK, EQ: All I can say is FUCK YEAH on both accounts!! You better show up on the broadcast (which, for those kiddie at home, will be aired on July 17 9/8C). We wish there was any way we could make it, that's just heartbreakingly good stuff there--have an awesome time!!!

And about Tenacious D opening for Metallica, alls I can think to say is FUCKALUCKADINGDONG! I'm already packing my bags <grin>

just got tix for the 'lovebox weekender' in london on 19th... festival-type affair with the fantastic "manu chao", who i love but have never seen so very happy about that, aswell as a slew of other acts (groove armada amongst many others)... and tix for the disco granny herself (madge) in london in september at mrs smax' behest...

I thought about starting a thread called RINGO! but this one will do nicely...

As I texted a couple of folks from here: I will always love Stewart, but damn. Having been smiled at by an actual Beatle, I'm still a little overcome.

The show itself was great, and featured some hits I didn't expect ("Act Naturally," "Boys") but the downside was the giant Lennon-shaped hole in a couple of spots ("Yellow Sub", "Little Help from My Friends").

As with another drummer we all know and love, I could have watched him all night. What a pro. I'd go see him any day, any time, and I may try to catch another gig on the tour.

Tomorrow's his birthday and the request is that we all say "Peace and love" at noon. I know I'll be setting the alarm.

My wife saw the All Starr show a few years back. She said it was a fun show and she saw Tom Petty in the audience(it was in LA). How can you go wrong with Ringo?

We absolutely <3 Ringo around here--George was always my fave Beatle and Ringo PapaCat's but we both adore him absolutely. I think Don't Pass Me By has to be one of my fav Beatle tunes <grin> Glad it was a great show!!

Honestly, I was so chuffed to hear "Boys" that anything else would have been gravy on top of it.

Was just looking up prior All-Starr lines-up and what I wouldn't given to have seen either Rick Danko or Dave Edmunds...that said, this year's All-Starrs were pretty fun (Billy Squier, Gary Wright, Colin Hay, all of whom have retained 100% of their respective ranges) but the standout was Edgar Winter, who played Frankenstein in all its glory.

More fun stuff: Watching R. play really enthusiastic drums on Billy Squier's "The Stroke"; the entire ensemble performing "Free Ride"...

You know, it did remind me of a Police show a little bit. There's just nothing like seeing a pro play after 40+ years of experience. I find myself somewhat bored at shows by many twentysomethings these days.

It also looks like Mr. Starr is still having a lot of fun with all this. It's almost like he knows he can't possibly live up to The Legend, so why not have a good time and get out and play a show...He still looks and sounds great, too. A very young 68, I'd say.

For some reason it made me smile to see he's still playing Ludwigs. He was a shameless flirt with all the girls in the audience, too

I'll have to ask the Mrs. what line up she saw. It was when he first started doing the tours. I think Edgar Winter has been with him from the start of these tours.
He is here in LA, I think in August.
I am tempted to go now. I think to see him play drums on The Stroke would be worth the price of admission.

Ringo is so great on the Concert for George, check out the DVD or see it on you tube if you have a chance.

Too bad Harry Nilsson didn't make it this far, can you imagine him on the All Starr tour?

Man. Dhani is really scary, isn't he? He's like a clone of his dad. I saw a photo of him with Sean Lennon, gave me a little chill.

I love that Tribute DVD. Have a copy of it though I haven't watched it in a while. Guess I'll drag it out. Just bought Ringo's newish record online, also...really liked the title track.

Somehow I didn't expect him to be so personable on stage. He seemed really genuinely glad to be there.

(that's a really fun Youtube. Man. I just kept picturing Ringo in "Hard Days Night"...his face has changed but that voice is precisely the same. Somehow it seemed impossible for him to actually exist in the flesh, you know what I mean? I'm still not sure the whole thing wasn't an hallucination of some type...)

The first concert I attended at Jones Beach was Ringo Starr and his all star band. Man, that was fun. Must have been almost 20 years ago! Back then we'd go see any concert that sounded interesting...many of them were just to catch a legend perform "while we can." Around that same time period I saw a lot of bands that, while I was growing up, I didn't think I'd ever get to see. And some, like the Who, I just saw again a year ago!

There is just something about seeing a Beatle in concert. I saw Paul on his last tour. I have never been a huge Paul fan but seeing him up on stage, it’s like your life is up there. From when I first start listening to music, 8 Tracks in my best friend’s garage of The Beatles to seeing one of the only two left on stage in front me, it was unbelievable.

Coolest part of Paul’s concert was at the end. I look up on the video screen and he is taking his bows. Someone tossed him a t-shirt, I think. He looked at it, then patted his shirt like he was looking for a pen. He looked right at the person and shrugged like “Sorry, I don’t have a pen”. He waited a beat, then pointed right at the person, gave that big Paul grin, whipped out a Sharpie, signed it and tossed it back it one motion.
I will never forget that moment. I don’t know why it means so much to me. Maybe just that connection, it was so genuine, like he was just the same Paul you have known your whole life, except your both a little bit older.
