gordo to retire but first new police album and retro stuff

Call me old, but I miss the days when music wasn't so corporate. I suppose it benefits the musicians a lot more than the old days, though.

I myself believe in Mackerels

:D :D :D

I also think that we have little patience these days, we are fed constantly by the media and are left wanting more and more, I'm sure that they will all continue to work, either apart or together and although I secretly dream of more Police stuff, I'll be happy and excited with any solo stuff from the boys too.

Thanks English-Lion, you've been the first to show the link. And thanks to Smax for this new thread.

Sting to retire?
Why would he do that? As an artist, he probably needs to create all the time. I don't know, but I presume being a musician in term of carreer can't be compared with an employee in an office, for example. Probably the kind of job you want to have until death!

A new Police album?
They made Tourzilla, and probably a new tour wouldn't give as much as it gave for this one: the effect of surprise is now gone. Unless a new album could create a new interest (new songs, new setlist...). I think it's possible: they finally toured much more than initially planned and they didn't kill each other. According to Stewart, they were better than ever at the end of the tour. So it could be the right time to go to the studio, one of the last opportunities before they loose the chemistry again. Unless it's really over, for ever. Who knows? ...Gio, have you received anything on that in your famous Stewart e-mail? ;)

Call me blonde. Call me slow, but I'm really bummed having just now realized (thanks to previously posts - no, not the fish ones :? ) that the reason we've hardly heard anything from Stewart is likely due a confidentiality agreement signed in conjunction with his bloody book!
If this is true, we're not likely to hear from him until it comes out. That's supposed to be, what, November?!

So, we're not gonna be able to hear/read anything about anything that happened on Tourzilla until we have to pay for it then. That's it innit? :(
Stewart and Stanley together again!! YO!

Even without a book I think there was a confidentiality agreement because 1) someone posted a link to a rumor that I believe was on stingus.net about it and 2) it would make a lot of sense for ALL employed by the tour to have one. But yes, Stewart having a book coming out would preclude him from "publishing" it here. Maybe once he's gotten to the point of a final draft and he knows what's in it and what's not he'll start talking more.

I wouldn't doubt that they all had to sign some kind of confidentiality agreement around the tour that no doubt extended to some point after all was said and done - after all there was still the marketing of the cd/dvd set to consider, among other things.

Regarding the rumors...I'll make no judgment until/unless I hear something from a reputable source. Lots of things could happen one way or another.

I do think, though, speculating that if there WERE to be another tour, there'd have to be some new material to support it this time around. Though us diehards would go at the drop of the hat to hear the same (or almost the same) set again anytime, for the casual fan the thrill of a reunion/retro-show is done, now. There has to be something else to make it worth their while to go. I'm reminded of Duran Duran, when they did their first big "reunion tour" of the original five - the first time around it was basically all old stuff, then they did a new album & hit the road again in support of it. There has to be something like that to justify a whole new tour, in my opinion--but 2009 for it? I highly doubt that, IF it's even a possibility.

If they make a new renaissence of "The Police" perhaps it won't be like the old days... So be ready -if it happen- to heard a mature rock for the adult contemporary audience... the sound and path was found on the "Reunion Tour" now is time to packed it into new songs for a forthcoming album...definetely Andy & Stew songs should be there... all depends on them and in the upper world  8)

Wrong timing. That video is dated November 2. Gert's interview with Stewart was long over by then -- the first episode was posted online that day, in fact.

(That's not to say whether anyone was or wasn't in the country at the time. I'm just pointing out two events as separate.)
Though us diehards would go at the drop of the hat to hear the same (or almost the same) set again anytime, for the casual fan the thrill of a reunion/retro-show is done, now.
And by the end of Tourzilla, even the diehards had dwindled. Many amphitheater shows had plenty of empty seats. They over-milked that puppy.

As the rumors go, meh. I have no opinion. I can't see Sting hanging up his spurs either -- music is in his blood -- but if he decides to tour less or whatever, good for him. He's been on the road for the better part of a couple of decades. What's the good of owning a couple of castles if you never get to enjoy them?

But going back a couple of pages to smax's OP, these lines still bug me:
Andy Summers and Stewart Copeland are reported to have zero/no new albums/tours for 2009.

Notice, we have not heard much from either - in a big way.
Makes it sound like they'll just be sitting around til 2010, whacking off and waiting for the phone to ring. Yeah, Stewart hasn't made any sweeping "official" announcements (has he ever really? and just how many albums/tours has he announced as a *composer*?) -- and considering the confidentiality agreements in standard office contracts, I'd be shocked if Stewart *weren't* up to his eyeballs in legalese from the tour/band and the publisher -- but a symphony and a book are fairly sizable projects. When he's not whacking off and waiting for the phone to ring, I'm guessing he's keeping busy.

I figure when Stewart, Sting, and/or Andy have something he/they can say, he/they will. In Stewart's case, if we're really lucky, he might even tell us before it's over.
Dramatic highlights & a unique musical cosmos. Guaranteed.

I am not usre if it could happen on 2009 or not... what I feel is that they found a new stylish sound of their own band sound... something say me this will be great for hearing into a studio album and with new songs for an adult contemporary "ROCK" that till today isn't satisfied by the muscial market... I mean all what this big mass of audience have is to go to "classic rock" area in the record shops to pick up their music (old records remastered), but nothing new... no "new" musical proposals, but "The Police" have developed it into a new sound during the reunion tour, so now is time to packed it into the studio... is simple than that...

People like Peter Gabriel still proposes something "new", still evolving in his style ever recognizable. But I'd be curious too to see how The Police had evolved in the studio, mostly after this tour. Yes, their style matured, and to me too, in the good direction. Let's see if the boys think it deserves a new album...
