Stewart performing Love Lessons live.

i met mark brrrrrrrrrzzzzkkkkkiii at some drum clinic / music fair thingy years ago, he was very sweet and very good.

a friend used to be 'mates' (big fan) with level 42, we saw 'em in 1990 on their 10th anniversary tour with gary husband on drums and alan holdsworth, got invited backstage and joined their party... mark was a really nice guy, if anyone said anything funny he would pretend his jaw had fallen to the floor and go to catch it with his slapping hand (probably makes more sense iif you see the hand movement).. it was all going swimmingly until mike lindup (?) made a very clumsy drunk pass at me, which as a 16 year old i didn't handle at all well, but was saved by mark who whisked me away to safety!

uh-huh, like the wind stapled to the back of a cheetah.
i was all "ooh, we're backstage with famous people..." so i was completely mindfked when he started touching my leg and hinting that we should go somewhere else!
i was quite a long way from thinking "maybe i should..", but i did need saving.

Gary Husband - another one of my drum heroes. Saw him in a teeny tiny bar in Milwaukee playing with Allan Holdsworth. If you have a chance to see this genius at work, I highly recommend it. However, make sure he's playing drums, as he also plays keyboards. If I'm not mistaken, Husband wrote the song that might be Vinnie Colaiuta's recorded masterpiece (Joe's Garage included) -- City Nights from Holdsworth's Secrets CD.

I read this, saw the leg reference, and thought your last phrase was 'i did need shaving'. (Sorry)

Ya know...I should chime in here...

I've been a huge L42 fan since '86 (I think I started this thread like a billion years ago, did I?). Anyway, I got to meet Mike Lindup in NYC in the mid 90's or so, as he was playing with a Brazilian band. Just a really great guy. A fellow friend and fan was with me, we struck up a conversation and the three of us went for a cup of coffee together.

I gotta say...I recall him having a quite an eye for a couple of ladies during that time. He's also been married to his wife for about 5 years and they have a child together.

No, I'll never confuse him for a roughneck. But if one person has one take on him (which is fair), I just wanted to give a point of view that might be a little different.

Thanks!

On a completely different note, this is HUGE that you got to see this incarnation of the band. I believe they only played this set of dates at the Hammersmith Odeon (which I think marked some kind of attendance record at the time) with Holdsworth in the band and that was it.

I do have one bootleg from one of these shows and it sounds great...just weird to hear Holdsworth trying to play some of the funkier rhythm guitar parts.

Holdsworth is amazing on the Guaranteed album, altho many L42 hardcore don't like the album.

i swear that that's my recollection of things, but you know i was quite a pretty 16 year old!

i think they did 10 nights there for their 10th anniversary. i saw 'em on the 10th night, sat in row 10, seat 10, and i think the dates were in October too!
i also saw and spoke gary and alan doing clinics at the British Music Fair sometime around then. I've still got the cardboard guitar which they signed along with nico mcbrain and mark brzzzxkkkiiiziziiikki!. [my mate was chummy with the 42 and we'd met alan murphy before when he was sick].

Very, very cool story - and a great appreciation for the #10!. So jealous. I only got to see the original lineup here in the States in '86. Saw MK solo in England once.

Also have met Gary and Allan H. Top blokes indeed!
