A few more thoughts now that I've had some sleep...
--Our prayers to the sun god (and our Kinetic Kid) worked! Despite a few sprinkles early on during Fiction Plane's set, the predicted "severe thunderstorms" stayed clear away through the night. It was actually a rather gorgeous evening for an outdoor concert as a result of some cooler air (or should I say a COOLBREEZE) that did blow in just as the band was getting ready to hit the stage.
--sc.net shirts are the best for spotting folks from a distance!
--Even the McFaddens' staff had to take a photo of us in our tube sock and flag-holdin' glory.
--The Leroy Coolbreeze shirt was back.
Couldn't see the shoulder insignias, but I think I'm just going to choose my own to personalize it. (Even my mom--a diehard Andy freak--was digging Stew's look (especially the headband)).
--While unfortunatley I didn't get a chance to meet Policerule in person, we did chat on the phone and found out that even if Stewart missed where the flag was at, it IS visible clear across a ballpark park (we were on dead opposite sides and she could see it!)
--Indoor venues definitely have better sound and feel more intimate, and from a side-angle like I had, you can only really see the jumbotron on your side of the stage (not even the ones behind the band). And the side jumbo-tron operators need to show MOAR ANDY AND STEWART.
--Was it just me or were the tempos just CRANKING? Especially during "When the World", "Driven", "Next to You", it sure sounded to me like they were playing a lot more fast and furious than before. The arrangement on "Don't Stand" is much closer to the original now in my ears (and my mom gave it a big thumbs up) I didn't think they could sound even better than they did in Dallas, my last show, but they definitely pulled it off.
--Andy was blazing! And Stewart was of course on fire. I noticed some changeup in the rhythm toward the end of "Walking In Your Footsteps" I didn't hear before, and he was killing on the octobans at one point in the "Roxanne" jam. He was also seriously goofing around on stage behind Andy and Sting when they came out for "Next to You" (which sadly contained no "Dead End Job" riffing).
--Sting seemed fairly chatty. Of course, us Philly crowds'll get ya going. Were our ears deceiving us, or did he actually mention Grendel's Lair, the first place they ever played in Philly (vespapod was bouncing up and down about that since HE WAS THERE).
--My favorite of the night is hard to pick, but I'm going to go with "Can't Stand Losing" for the double-round of "eeey-yohs" and Reggatta. Mom voted for "Every Breath You Take", which even surprised her, but she really loved the way Sting sang it. vespapod will have to speak for himself!
--One of my friends sadly couldn't make the show at the last minute because of a medical emergency, but we were able to put the extra ticket to good use "upgrading" one of my other friend's seat from the 400-level down to the 100-level with us. And I'm going to make sure to get my friend who missed tonight to one of the MSG shows...
--All in all a magic night, I was so happy to meet DM, Moeskido, Animal, donnanj at last! I was saying to Conroy that this year is already a bit of a traveling convention, meeting with different folks all around the country, getting a chance to hang out and pass our flag from one person to the next.
--THANK YOU, STEWART!!
--PS: Fuck you, weasel.
