Well, who knows, great drummers have been known to give props to others, especially when they have nothing to prove themselves anymore and they can be positive. Well, cept Buddy <grin> Stewart said that Brain just "took his lunch" and that drummers today start, chops wise, pretty much where Stewart left off...now, the funny thing is that I can tell it's Stewart or Grohl because of the way they play...they are in a position to be able say good things about others...as for who's right...I dunno. I;d imagine, somewhat, that Dave could be speaking the truth, as he sees it, but I imagine given the attention he's gotten as a drummer and the fact that many people would like to see him behind the kit still, he's probably trying to efface some of his own legacy and hand it on over to Taylor, he's the drummer for the Foos, and he's a damn smoking one too...As much as I love them, I don't think the drum-offs were really helping with this impression...Dave's handed it over to some extremely capable hands...
But then again Stewart and Dave are my top 2 favorite drummers (I love hard hitters & players with more finesse than appears on the surface)...Dave Lovering too...and Glen Kotche....and ?uestlove <giggle> But that doesn't mean I'd be confused over questions of "legacy" or "influence"...that'd be a different list...and, as I said, would include most of those on the MD list, but c'mon Stewart? Especially since MD printed he's the most influential drummer of the last 25 years? I mean, for reals...<grin> I'm sure we could all at least agree Stewart should be on the list, and Travis off <grin>
MMMMEEEEEOOOOOOWWWWWW!!!!
