I think it's valid to have reservations about a band that hasn't been on tour in 23 years. Especially since Sting has had the reins on the Police songs since then and has reworked them to death.

I would have serious reservations if they had done the Hall Of Fame show, then went on tour the next day. I thought they sounded pretty bad then (except for Stewart, who just killed; and I'm not just saying that because of this forum), and figured they'd never play together again and what a shame that it was not up to par.

Ringo Starr's comment seems to be a tiny chink in the armor and when I first read his quote I instantly thought of Branford Marsalis' comment from 1985 (paraphrased): "Ringo Starr couldn't swing if he was hanging!.." This was after Ringo was quoted as saying that jazz sounds like cats running around on a tin roof.

And speaking of jazz, The Police WON'T sound like that. I'm quite sure Andy and Stewart are dissuading Stingo from the versions he's been doing since 1985 (example: I hope Sting puts the missing verse back in "When The World..."). That being said, I'm sure that Andy's harmonic sense has only advanced more and more and he probably has great ideas for new sections and reharmonizations in the songs. Stewart is still on fire and I'm glad he got out from behind the computer keyboard and back on the skins.

Along with that, we're getting The Police. No one else. No keyboard players, extra long-haired posing guitarists, backup singers, horn players (quickly--I thought that Chops RUINED most Police songs), etc. It would be great if we got the energy and excitement from stadium shows resembling the Zenyatta tour, with improved musicianship.

As for the cash--yes, they're getting a ton of money. They're all sharing the profits (it's not Sting's money show). Keep in mind they have other people to pay. They make their living playing music. God Bless 'em.

I'm sure I'll gush about the show. I'm sure I'll have criticisms. I just listened to a 1980 Zenyatta show in France where Andy was screwing up left and right. It happens. I'm a musician. You have good gigs and bad gigs.

I missed the Police live in 1984. Seen Sting many times since then. I listen to my bootlegs constantly. I can't wait, no matter what kind of show it is.
Stewart could play the Bongos, Andy could have a nurse feeling his pulse and Sting could sing all the names in the Tokyo phonebook while some arabian flute player is trying to safe world peace by performing "One world is enough ..." I couldn't care less - it is THE POLICE up there ...

Phaty: I couldn't agree more with you...Stewart could stand there playing a bloody triangle on a string with the other two farting through a microphone and I would be thrilled just to see The Police up on stage. I'm not quite forty yet but I'll be one of the loudest and rowdiest ones cheering in that crowd. :!:
Note to Ringo: Quit fucking boring everyone :!:

And I would like to add see them do the above in the costumes they wore at the Klark Kent Top of the Pops appearance.

Nahhh I don´t think so and in this opinion:
4. Ringo Starr was quoted as saying the band sounded boring @ the Grammies.
Maybe Ringo is some jealous because The Beatles never got a new reunion since John Lenon was murder...

yes, I may be...

I'm disappointed that some seem to be on the attack for one individual's thoughts on a lackluster Police tour. Constructive responses are wonderful. That's why we have forums.

If I wasn't clear on my previous post, the fact that they're not repeating a Sting show in terms of number of people onstage should tell us that it's going to be raw and energetic.

I'll get to see a tour that's not too far along, but also not too new out of the gates, so I predict a stellar two-night stand in Dallas.

I wonder about Sting's voice holding up over the course of the tour, but I think years of experience and daily fitness will help him through.

Hey, welcome aboard, Daner. We have a lot of Dallas folks here for some reason. Hope you can join us for preconcert festivities on 6/26 and 6/27.

Personally, I think there may be some small amount of jealousy on Ringo's part...bet he wishes he were in a reformed band selling out stadiums. And you know, I bet he wishes he'd got more credit for the Beatles' work, besides...

(not that I wouldn't actually start selling body parts to get tickets were John and George still around, and the Beatles played a reunion tour...but there's no way it'd be anywhere near the same without the two of them.)

Thanks for the welcome...

I understand there are festivities planned--I forget the restaurant, but I have a friend who is a GM at Luna Del Noche (which just opened near the AA Center) so I may go there beforehand. He promised me good valet service.

But, if there are other events planned I'll see what my wife and I can attend.

The Beatles reforming is not even a blip of a possibility. And I'm sure Ringo is very bitter about that.

Well, and seeing all the fans going bananas...I'm sure it hearkens back to the old days for the old chap.

(I better not dwell on this, because I get damn depressed whenever I think much about Lennon's murder...but....wouldn't it have been wonderful...?)

I don't know that we're "on the attack"...perhaps just a tad irritated that there seems to be this prevailing trend on several boards to harp on the negative instead of the positive. Like, this sense that things will go wrong or be boring or be an "all-Sting" show, this need to look for the potential downside of everything before a single note has been played (I don't count the Vancouver clips or even the Grammy performance, that was all way too early IMO to predict what we're going to hear come this summer.)

I guess I just don't see the need to take the "glass half empty" approach instead of "half full" at this point in time. There's nothing wrong with constructive criticism; I'd just like to hold off on it until we've actually _heard_ something instead of basing it on nothing but speculation and what sometimes feels like a need to poke holes in a balloon many of us have been waiting to see soar for twenty+ years.
