Did we forget to tell you guys Trey was there? Oh yes! Bounding out of his seat and waving and clapping like mad during the standing ovations! (and lurking outside the ladies room waiting for his wife).

But no Claypool....

Here is another positive review from a local blogger which is posted on the D'Drum facebook page:
http://moonladymeanderings.blogspot.com ... ddrum.html

After listening to the piece numerous times (at home, dog walking, in car, at work), I must say I love it. A wonderful and very Stewart mix of non-Western percussion and Western orchestra.
SC-There are a few crazy people on this planet. Sure sign of that is that they kinda like my music

Me too : )

Possibly no other composer today could have blended so seamlessly a global improvisation-based percussion ensemble with orchestra.

Nice review!

Great shots! Can’t believe that is Dallas with all the snow.
Thanks for posting luna virgo and glad your first nutter adventure turned out a success in the end.
Conroy and empty are always fun, I had a great time with them in November seeing Fiction Plane at the Viper room.

Maybe you can make it out to LA for an LA nutter adventure one of these days. We have no snow!

Damn, so busy this week I have had no time to cough!

Thank you so much for reviews, tales, and of course the <coughing>. Mightily relieved that you all got there, didn't break any limbs (hope the bruises are subsiding), and that there was a performance in the end.

Conroy, is it ok to spread this particular <cough> virus to those without the means to infect themselves via broadband?

(If any of the Dallas Five have time I'd appreciate detailed instructions on how to commandeer a limo when the cabs are too scared to venture out on the ice. For us urban folk this is akin to being able to start a fire with two sticks.)

I'm fascinated by the story of the limo too. How did that happen? In the photos, it seemed to appear just like the Knight bus in Harry Potter. Come on peeps, spill the beans!

Lovely shots Luna_virgo. It's always fun to see Nutters in action and put faces to names. Thank you for posting 'em.

Aw, I'm hating like hell having missed this. Bet it was way awesome. Thanks again, a whole bunch, to Con for his always-one-step-ahead thinking on this kind of thing. Have enjoyed it a lot.

After we'd got back to the Knight's Inn from an early dinner with Amy, we were determined to have a night of fun but somewhere else besides the Knight's Inn. I tried calling a cab, spent several minutes getting busy signals, and when I finally got through was told it would be 1-2 hours at the earliest before we'd get one.

So, I kept a vigil inside and out waiting for the cab to come when. After about an hour of waiting when it was becoming clear that the cab I had summoned was never going to materialize, a stretch limo pulled into the parking lot with the Steeler's logo on the side. Meg rushed out and asked the limo driver (I think his name was Don) if we could hire him. Don, at first thinking we were joking, said he had to check in first. While he was checking in, Meg took a cool picture of the limo with her iPhone where it looked like it had a halo around the limo. It was like our ride had come from heaven It was a magical moment and we knew right then Nutter karma was finally swinging our way.

After he checked into his room, Don came back and checked to be sure we were serious about it and agreed to drive us as we didn't look we would mess with the personal stuff left in the back. We were welcomed inside the limo to the remnants of what we determined was probably a Dutch oven left by the previous occupants. It wasn't long before we glided down Mockingbird Ln and other icy strees on our way to the Grapevine, a local dive bar that Meg had googled. It wound up being a pretty cool place that was obviousy gay/bi friendly (and at least one drag queen) but not flamingly so and everyone there that we met couldn't have been nicer. We wound up sitting on the sofa near the sole pool table and enjoying watching them play billiards for a few hours. I even managed to hit a ball off of Meg's belly button into the pocket even though I was pretty lit and didn't know I'd made it until a few people made me aware of this feat. More nutter magic.

The people watching at the Grapevine was great. But we started to wonder how we were going to get back to the Knight's Inn since we neglected to get Don's number for a ride back. About midnight I called for a cab. One company said they were only doing rides to and from the airport and hospitals because of the icy roads and the other said it was still a two hour wait. Closing time came and it looked like we were going to have to traverse the 4 miles back on icy streets on foot as several cabs passed by without stoppping. Then, one more minivan cab came by and Meg ran into the street and shouted. It stopped and the cabbie and sole occupant welcomed us in. Nutter karma strikes again. Both the cabbie and the lady he was driving were very nice and it was a fun ride back to the Knight's Inn. It must have been close to 230 am by the time we got back (the limo was still in the parking lot), and we went straight to bed exhausted but safe thanks to our guardian angels.

I don't have a problem spreading the d'drum virus offline and hope the Maestro doesn't either. Just spread the world about how awesome D'drum is. Hopefully, D'drum will do an official release of what was recorded on Saturday (CD/DVD, please!!!!) and that will spur a tour of some sort which I am sure everyone who has caught the bug will buy CDs/DVDs and tickets to see when it stops in their hometowns for hopefully multiple nights so that everyone can see it from multiple vantage points which is the only to throughly get the full experience.

Yeah, the limo smelled pretty bad. But it was an amazing twist of fate that we got to ride in it, and it was fun pulling up to a dive bar in a stretch limo. The Grapevine was a fun place, with nice cheap drinks and an interesting crowd. Kinda reminds me of a couple of places in Birmingham.

In general I have to say that Texans are very friendly people. I'd like to go back sometime when the weather is nice and visit all the places I didn't get to this time around.

And D'Drum is awesome! I was listening to their cd in the car on the way home and loving it.

Thanks so much for posting the pictures, luna. They're awesome. Thanks also to conroy for explaining how we Nutters do Dallas when Dallas comes undone. Since my return, I've been way too busy with reality to describe any of our (mis)adventures in detail. The limo from heaven was amazing! Equally amazing was conroy's belly button to left corner pocket shot. Did you all notice from the photo that the billard ball was the solid green one? When I saw that happen, I took it as a sign, and I, too, was certain that our luck had taken a permenant turn for the better.

I'm still very much floating around with a post-gamelan glow. At school today (Catholic school, dontchaknow), they read a snippet of St. Paul's epistle to the Corinthians about love. It says something like if I speak without love, I am nothing but a clanging gong or noisy cymbal. I immediately thought, "Man, St. Paul says that as if it's a bad thing!" If he had heard the D'Drum concert, I'm sure he'd have chosen a different metaphor.
In Dallas, the only game that really mattered was in the word gamelan.
