I Guess Oysterhead will have to wait awhile - CRAP!

"Just trying to stay positive and hope that we'll see more rock out of Stewart at any rate. I appreciate his other projects, but there still isn't anything like him in a ROCK BAND. I miss The Police something bad right about now. Spring is in the air and there are no shows to look forward to.
It's like a whole new life has begun and it's boring as hell! What other band can we follow this summer? Can I change the subject or what?"

PRule, my love, WORD! Especially this bit...

"It's like a whole new life has begun and it's boring as hell!"

I miss the inspiration of their fierce, onstage energy.

HAHAH PR, I *knew* that'd be yer reaction <grin> Love ya babe <3

Basically the only guitar player I am absolutely obsessed with is Johnny Greenwood...not sure how that'd work out, but talk about another unlikely orbit/schedule to align, seriously...

What if it were something different? Stewart plus any other two for another experiment: who'd ya pick?

--In the "aw, just cut Trey" category: how about cutting the guitar entirely and going with SC, Les Claypool, and Armand Sabal-Lecco? Not on OH material necessarily; just for kicks and explosives.
How about Stewart on guitar and Jeff Seitz on drums?
I like the way you think, Con.
Dramatic highlights & a unique musical cosmos. Guaranteed.

Aw hell, that's easy: Mike Watt and Nels Cline. Although I'm not minding DM's suggestion. Notatall.
Who could replace Trey in OH? I think Adrian Belew would be a great choice. Belew and Les have played together and Stewart and Belew have played togther as well. I recall a cool version of Don't Box Me In.

While I am a huge Trey fan, I would not mind seeing a Belew headed OH Version 2.0 Very Happy
I think this is a wunderbar suggestion as well. Damn right. Or hell, maybe Pete Buck - he's playing with everybody else these days...Minus 5 is doing some cool stuff in recent years. Jon Auer and Ken Stringfellow? I can see Les glamming it up, and we all know Stewart has that in him ;)

From page 20 of the May – June 2008 issue of “Drumhead” magazine, as per Stewart Copeland:
“Playing in a band takes a real commitment that I am not emotionally equipped for. Oysterhead, I’ll go back to in a shot, the minute this whole Police thing is over. Trey has probably got to do another Phish tour, but Oysterhead is totally in my future. I love those guys. And it’s also an antidote to The Police. It’s so opposite to The Police, in a good way, in a positive way.
“When I’ve been doing Oysterhead for a while, I will long for the security of a well arranged Police song. Playing with The Police is a lot easier than Oysterhead, physically. In Oysterhead you have to fill every bar with inspiration and effort. In The Police, the song itself is the thing. It’s the material that’s the difference. Les and Sting have equal power as front men, but Sting’s got the songwriting chops. With Oysterhead, we have to make it up as we go along, which is a lot more strenuous, but it’s also very inspiring.”

When Oysterhead played in Van. back in the fall of 2001 (show almost didn't happen due to the 9/11 terrorist attacks) I thought it was the last time I would see my favourite drummer. So glad I was way wrong. Don't count Oysterhead out yet, anything can and will happen....just sayin'. 8)

Yeah. I'm holdin' out hope still, myself.

Sockii makes a good point - although why not Claypool, Copeland and Grohl? Maybe with a little Pat Smear and Mike Watt thrown in....not that I have anything against ol' Taylor...we know he can hold his own in a double-drum show!

OK, how about Les, Stewart, and Stewart's Curved Air boots? Those babies have to be hiding in a closet somewhere, dying to get some play.

Belew, like Trey, is another great guitarist with a weak voice (though both are less annoying than Les's! - Will I be tarred and feathered for that?) Anyway, I don't see the advantage of replacing Trey. I saw Oysterhead when they toured and it's definitely not about the singing or even the songs - it is all about the PLAYING.

The advantage would be the availability of Belew while Trey was doing the Phish thing.

Also, I think I've gotta defend Adrian's vocals. I'll admit that he has had a tendancy to sound like the people he has played for (to some extent), such as Bowie and David Byrne. However, there are some Crimson tracks where I think his vocals are quite good (such as Matte Kudasai, Eyes Wide Open, etc.). But of course, people see Adrian to hear what he does with a guitar, primarily.
There is no bigger gong.

Well, so far this timeline is on the money, so I'll just hold Stewart to the rest

Thanks for that quote Rusty James! My mood is improving just from reading that! :D

<drool> We all know that Les has no problem glamming it up either. This is just too much excitement for one morning! (been bitter lately, it doesn't take much to make me smile)
