You guys in the UK really got hammered with the snow! Thirty centimetres is not the end of the world here, but it's still a lot of snow. I can't imagine what it would be like in a place that doesn't have the proper snow removal equipment to deal with it. Heck, you don't even have the proper vocabulary to deal with it. Moonstone, what do you mean when you say the snow hadn't "settled"? And smudge, I like your image of slithering cars. It sounds so much more elegant and gentle than skidding cars.
Kiki, all that stuff down in Kentucky is just scary. Being without electricity in such cold weather is potentially disasterous. I hope everything is back to normal soon.
Here we had another day above freezing. The older boys at my school were running around at recess without their coats on. When it's been hovering around -15C for weeks on end +4C feels like a summer day at the beach.
And Chatchka, if I didn't love ya so much, I'd really hate you right now. My ex-hubby, who lives in your fair town, always complains to me and my kids on the phone every time the temperature drops below 65F.
You are so right, in the Uk we aren't equipped to deal with all this white stuff, probably 'cos it hardly ever happens so when a few inches of snow falls the whole country comes to a standstill.
Yesterday the snow was melting on the beach as soon as it landed so it didn't settle but it bloody well did settle overnight. Today we've had snow, hail, thunder and lightening and even a bit of sun. According to the met office the Isle of Wight is going to be buried in snow tonight.
As brits we like complain about the weather whatever it does though and in August we'll all be moaning that we're too hot.
