Ha! Likewise. But I think it is only the lame, soft, South that has ground to a halt. No london buses. At. All. Stoopid city.

Only a tiny bit on the Island but the dogs are gobsmacked as they've never seen it before.

The biggest problem here is not much gritting going on so loads of car prangs. Saw one half way up a lampost.

Much car slithering here too. Had great fun digging a path out to the street. Wield the Spade ;-)

Wish it would damn global warming up in my hut. Even the dogs ran for cover when we went down the beach this evening and the snow wasn't even settling.

Too right! If the polar ice shelf wasn't melting into the north atlantic and messing up the much under-appreciated Gulf Stream, we'd be having our usual wet, windy, and (frankly) slightly lame-ass british winter.

It is kinda pretty to look at though....

Yeah, I heard today that Mr. Gore had to cancel an appearance to give a talk on the warming thing because everything was snowed in.

Last week, I went to work on Monday.

Monday night, we had 5 inches of snow. I work for a university...and it closed campus on Tuesday. Tuesday night, freezing rain and then 2 more inches of snow fell. Campus closed on Wednesday.

Also lost power Tuesday night...got it back Wednesday night.

THursday, the ice still had left people with no power and roads too dangerous. Campus was closed. Same on Friday.

I took pictures:

A lot of Kentucky (even in Louisiville) still has no power. It's been a week now...

Crazy weather this year.

Dude....you are totally destroying the Canadian stereotype....ghesh.

You should have stayed in Calgary when you had the chance last summer.

The snow is almost all melted and it was 14 degrees C when I was driving home tonight.

Alberta needs you guys out east sucking as much natural gas as humanly possible with the global recession whacking natural gas prices.

I know what you all mean about the cold. It has been crazy here -- the temperature dropped down below 68 degrees today and I actually had to wear some socks and a fleece. Fucking freezing, dammit. Brrrrr. If this keeps up I won't be able to get into the pool until fucking March.

You guys in the UK really got hammered with the snow! Thirty centimetres is not the end of the world here, but it's still a lot of snow. I can't imagine what it would be like in a place that doesn't have the proper snow removal equipment to deal with it. Heck, you don't even have the proper vocabulary to deal with it. Moonstone, what do you mean when you say the snow hadn't "settled"? And smudge, I like your image of slithering cars. It sounds so much more elegant and gentle than skidding cars.
Kiki, all that stuff down in Kentucky is just scary. Being without electricity in such cold weather is potentially disasterous. I hope everything is back to normal soon.
Here we had another day above freezing. The older boys at my school were running around at recess without their coats on. When it's been hovering around -15C for weeks on end +4C feels like a summer day at the beach.
And Chatchka, if I didn't love ya so much, I'd really hate you right now. My ex-hubby, who lives in your fair town, always complains to me and my kids on the phone every time the temperature drops below 65F.
In Dallas, the only game that really mattered was in the word gamelan.

You are so right, in the Uk we aren't equipped to deal with all this white stuff, probably 'cos it hardly ever happens so when a few inches of snow falls the whole country comes to a standstill.

Yesterday the snow was melting on the beach as soon as it landed so it didn't settle but it bloody well did settle overnight. Today we've had snow, hail, thunder and lightening and even a bit of sun. According to the met office the Isle of Wight is going to be buried in snow tonight.

As brits we like complain about the weather whatever it does though and in August we'll all be moaning that we're too hot.

Ah! Now I understand what you mean by settle, moonstone. In Canada we say that the snow didn't even stay on the ground, and then we stop talking about it. We don't really count it as snow if it doesn't accumulate.

How's the weather across the frosty pond now? Has all the snow melted? I hear Kentucky in the States is still clearing up their mess.
