Andy, Stewart & ?

Something tells me that a Bass Player can never be stuck in front of STEWART. Part of his magic is that he shines through regardless of who he plays with. I think it'd rock to see super talented/busy players with them, going round robin on parts. But then again we know it's not his style to "solo".

I'm still pissed off at Eddie for blowing off Michael Anthony after all those years. But let's not get me started on that topic.

Michael Anthony seems like a really nice guy and surely did not seem to deserved to be treated like he did by Eddie. HOWEVER, Michael ain't really the most talented guy to ever pick up a bass.

I disagree. I think he was PERFECT for VH. I think a bass player who did a lot more than hold down the root would have made VH a mushy mess.

The best bass players in history aren't necessarily the most impressive as solo instrumentalists. They're the best for the songs performed by the bands they were in.

I have yet to hear Wolfie play, but I don't have high hopes. In fact, heh heh, I don't have high hopes that anything will come out of that camp again. Word in the biz is that they saw what happened with the Police tour this year and realized how much they blew it.

I would agree that Anthony was a good fit for VH. Would not ever be stepping on Eddie's toes or take the spot light away from him or Dave. However, I'm never thinking, that is one fantastic bassline

I think Claypool and Stanley Clarke were pretty much in Stewart's league, among the living. Oysterhead was in dire need of a better singer, though.
Palladino is a sessionman, and boring even if very good technically.
Flea is one of my favorites too, but I think he is way too volatile and needs somebody more "sturdy" than Stewart, like Chad Smith.

ACK! Listen to "Give Blood" off Townshend's White City and tell me again about him being boring. ;)

Not sure Pallidino is boring. His stuff with Jeff Beck recently was pretty good. I do wish he were a bit more adventurous with the Who live, but I'm sure its tough trying to step into John's shoes. I'm afraid he thinks if he plays too flashy, people will think he's just trying to be a John clone.

As to Oysterhead, I really like Trey as a singer. I will admit, though, that Les is a bit of an acquired taste (which might be a tremendous understatement).

Don't know about this one.
I have listened to his work with Queen and The Who: he was certainly up to the task, but did not show much personality, maybe because the others did not let him.
It's like when you listen to VINNIE playing for Cher or on his own. I saw him playing at the Crossroads festival of Chicago last weekend with Jeff Beck and an Aussie 21 girl who was MFing exceptional, Tal Wilkenfeldeck. Remember this name.

Oh my freakin GAWD, it'll leave you thinking that Pino is right up there with any of the world's most complex bassists.

Except Jaco. No one has ever been or ever will be Jaco again. By the way, if he was alive, I'd HATE to have him play with Stew, despite the fact that he's probably my favorite bassist ever.
