I've had enough of Bob Marley!!!

I think that if you love the music then the technical ability isn't the be-all and end-all. I used to LOVE The Pastels when I was 15 and none of them could play or sing for shit - I just loved the songs! There is a certain shambolic charm to some bands whereas others would sound utterly horrific if it wasn't technically dead-on every time. It depends on the style and I think the garagey grungey blues of the White Stripes can cope with the, er, 'loose' style of Meg White.

So WHY is Bob Marley (Though I love his music a Ton !) on the cover of MOJO ? Where is The Police ?

Is it because it's Canada?

Darn it !

Cheers.

Ha LOL. It figures. Go to a thread about Bob Marley and you will see endless bitching about Oasis' drummer and whether or not Meg White is a good drummer. And no Bob Marley. Or MOJO.

I dunno Bongo. Maybe it's not the most current issue.

I know Stewart is a Stripes fan, but i have trouble appreciating 'em myself. I think they don't make *enough* use of the studio as a tool. You really just can't get much diversity out of the same two instruments used consistently, although i can see the purity of it appealing to people :)

Certainly no offense aimed at you or anyone else who likes the White Stripes Dive, just stating my honest opinion. And technical ability most certainly *isn't* the be all end all for what I like in music.

Some artists I like would be Afghan Whigs/Twilight Singers/Greg Dulli, Uncle Tupelo/Son Volt/Jay Farrar, King's X, Fiona Apple, Soundgarden, Rage Against the Machine, Audioslave, Johnny Cash, Tom Petty, Alison Krauss, Bill Monroe, John Zorn, The Roots, Mark Lanegan, The Killers, Foo Fighters, Peter Gabriel, Pearl Jam, Ozzy, Social Distortion, The Who, Warren Zevon, Goblin....I could go on for ages, but these are some who come to mind. Some of them would certainly fit the bill as perhaps lacking technical ability...some of them, most certainly not.

Hell, even Stewart has copped to missing a snare beat on Shadows and has talked many times before about speeding up on drum takes, which is far from "perfect". Didn't Bob Dylan consistantly get ripped up in the press (bastards that they are) for his vocals being off key? Stuff like that is part of the charm of music....I just find that with Meg, her rhythm is so bad IMO that it detracts from the music. And rhythm & drumming is the foundation for rock music....so if that's not sound, the music will be shaky at best, and will most likely fall right over. Again....this is just my opinion...and in case I haven't said it lately, I love ya Dive!!
