I like Ian's explanation that the kids just thought their father was away for " business trips" and didn't know what his work was.
It's kind of scary thinking about what the CIA has the liberty to do.

I wouldn't judge anyone by what their parents do/did. On the opposite side of the coin, does anyone judge Sting because his father was a milkman?
Stewart and Stanley together again!! YO!

That's a whole OTHER problem. A lot of kids have difficulties living up to the expectations of society that are set at a level based on smart, interesting, attractive, or generally cool parents.

I guess we're all our own people, like it or not.

Well yeah, I knew I was never going to be as intelligent and beautiful as my mum or as musically talented as my dad... but I don't really mind. I just get dead proud when people meet them!

But in a wider sense yes. The things that made me feel like a failure growing up didn't come from my mum and dad that's for sure.

From what I can tell from here, Hannah, you don't have anything to worry about. :)

Aw, she rules, don't let her tell you different. (And I'm not just saying this because she's the world's best tourguide, and penpal, and all...;))

Also not meaning to start a shitstorm. I was mostly all excited to see Stewart wearing a Nick Lowe pin, even if it's in sort of a tongue in cheek way. Wouldn't surprise me if the two of them hadn't got along back in the old days, had they run across one another.

Hell yes, OF COURSE I rule!

Shit storm averted I think... interesting topic though.
Intrigued by the Nick Lowe badge too - I've been listening to the best of Nick Lowe Part 1 today at work thanks to you Dive. Turns out I know a few of his songs... didn't realise!

He kind of creeps up on you, I think. I started out casually listening to a few of his singles, and before I knew it I had a full-blown case of the fever. All those songs (Jumbo Ark, Who Was That Man) on "Party of ONE" hooked me good.

Doesn't help that he plays here every couple of years. I think he's doing a gig in Londontown Octoberish.

How the hell are you reading that Lowe-ish pin, Dive? I can buy the "Pure Pop for" part, but I can't for the life of me make out that last line. It could say "Mother Fuckers" or "Bloody Fraggles" for all I can tell.
