YO, FLAG-BEARERS! Reminder: Don't be an asshat please

Postby Divemistress of the Dark on 04 Jul 2007 15:47

Hey guys, just a couple thoughts from personal experience: Get on the aisle. Stewart can pick out an SC.net t-shirt in the tenth row, but it makes it easier for him to spot you if you don't have a bunch of people in front of you.

You don't have to hold it over your head. Just hold it up sort of next to you. Most folks in your row will be glad to scoot over a bit, esp. after you've told them the Fable of the Flag. They're glad to help.

Stewart probably can't see out into the audience until the break before the encores anyway - think 10,000 watt light bulbs blazing into his eyes - so wait until the band leaves the stage, then start waving it when the crowd is going bonkers for the encore. Nobody is going to mind if you wave it when the band isn't onstage. Then, when Stewart comes out for the encore, he may look for it. They've been doing two full encores, by the way.

By this point the crowd is going insane anyway and all of them wish to hell they had something to wave...I had a guy offer to wave it *for* me in St. Louis...

Bear in mind a lot of Stewart's friends and family are in the crowd, so he may do a big point and wave or there may be someone else there that night he's got to attend to. But I'd say your chances are good for at least a thumbs-up. Have fun!

Listen to Dive, she knows how to rock the flag surely [Super Big Double Thumbs Up and a Stick Point! <grin>]...I have only become relatively clued into the whole aisle thing...I know, derrrrr, what my major malfunction is I don't know...perhaps decades of indoctrination in the "front-centre" mantra...but I am finally getting it <grin>
>>>Who started the whole 'asshat' phenomenon? It's not an insult I'm familiar with.<<<
I love "asshat". I've been using it regularly for maybe three years. It's great because the person you're insulting isn't quite sure what level of offense they should take. The act of wearing one's ass for a hat is both denigrating and highly comedic. I approve.

Hey Gina,
Just my two cents.... I live in Austin, Texas and went to the amazing Vegas show and have long planned the Tampa show. When the band came to Dallas, I commiserated with a couple of friends that we should take a quick road trip and grab a couple of cheap tickets and go. We did not do it. So then the Dallas shows came and went and then they were in Houston. My boyfriend, with whom I was fighting with at a time, suggested that we run down to Houston (3 hour drive one way) to see the show. I declined. And now, although I am seeing them in Tampa, I REGRET not jumping in the car and going to see them last minute. Do it! Jump on the bus and go! I hope to see you in Tampa!

Hi Jenny! You are surely right: that's why I did the Dallas, Houston, and New Orleans stint at the last minute! As Dietmar says, go to every show you can or else you will regret it...

But I have to be honest, it's like the freaking OK Corral around here today after hubby printed out the bank statement <dodges lasso, jumps behind couch, and reloads> I have big plans on the table but my strategy, if it comes to that, is to start big and negotiate down to just Louisville and Cleveland or, at worse, just Cleveland rather than just trying to fight for the one from scratch, LOL...Going down from 4 I'd hope is more successfully, tactically, that trying to add one from zero...if this makes sense than you may need help too <grin>

I'd be pretty much going to all except major cities like Chicago and NYC etc. if I had my druthers <grin> But I do have another human with whom I need to negotiate and if he's not happy, then well it ain't worth it...

"Asshat" rules. I think I'm going to start departing from the crowd a little bit though....you rule, weasel. In fact, I'm beginning to suspect you're the next incarnation of the Dalai Lama. Got any alms for us today?

Much as I'd love to see you in Derbytown, Supercat, I think you need to bear in mind that Cleveland is Stewart's birthday and as such a bunch of Stewart-Supporting-Superstars will probably descend on the Buckeye State that day. So you may be better off partying with the crowd that night.

I'm pretty well in for Louisville for sure. I'm still half-toying with Live Earth, though, I gotta admit.

Cleveland is non-negotiable on my part <grin> but in seeing what else would be "on the way" up there I saw some floor tix for Louisville in 80ish range <faint> and thought holy cwap! But realistically, occasionally I do take a more realistic point of view, LOL, all I'm really shooting for [unless Divine Intervention occurs] is Cleveland, negotiating down from a larger list <grin> U betcha that I plan on singing Happy Birthday Stewart as off-key as I can manage!!!

Heh. If you want to take the Live Earth plunge, the ticket is yours, Dive. Otherwise, I figure I'll drag my ass onto the train and catch the last few hours so that I don't feel quite so guilty for spending the money. But my client would certainly rather you go in my stead.

And yay for Cleveland, Miss Kitty! It should be a scream. Literally.

Laff, it's a delicate procedure! Now we just need to post a bunch of bumps etc. so my plan scrolls a few pages back in the strange case PapaCat comes around these parts, LOL. Sweetie usually only posts here to report if I made it to the next stop alive, etc., while I'm at home he just laughs at me whenever I get up, teasing me that I may miss something on the various boards I have windowed open if I am away for more than three minutes...what if Stewart logs in and posts??...such a character, PapaCat, and a comedian too!

That's a lot to ask, given he'll be front row center <grin>...but with the flag, however, I assure you, he is an eminantly trustworthy bearer!!

Well it shouldn't be a problem for me. First row in Miami that is! It should be easy. Hold flag in front of me chest height, stewart sees it, I put it away and enjoy the rest of the show (unless I want to wave it at Sting just for fun!) JK DM! :D
