A place for a Konvention?

Postby BinaryXtreme on 03 Jul 2007 16:25

If it's near where I live in Reno, like Los Angeles or abouts, I'd love to meet you all attending for sure.

If you choose Italy avoid: June, July, AND August.
Trust me, I just got back. Global warming ain't for sissies.
Avoid Venice at all costs if you want to keep your mortgage payments.
Otherwise, a place in the Alps or the Dolomites will do.

Or we can let SC choose!

vespapod and I actually found Florence more expensive than Venice.

Venice is NOT unduly expensive if you plan your trip right, rent an apartment instead of staying in a hotel, avoid the tourist traps, and eat at the local/fishermans' restaurants and bars.

We adored Venice and hope to return someday...but I don't think it would fit as a Konvention locale. If we manage to hit any Gizmo/Taranta dates I'd expect we'd be looking more at Southern Italy? (Which I'd love to see...we've actually been thinking about a coastal trip next summer as I was born in the Le Marche area, in Ancona, yet haven't returned since I was a baby...)

August is definitely a no because that's vacation month in Italy...many shops/restaurants close shop for the month. Unless we're going to hit the beach with everyone else!

Sockii, I AM from Southern Italy, and lived there for a long time.
I think NOT in the summer. Believe me if I tell you that this year is hell on Earth. The climate is changing.
Venice and Florence are equally expensive if you don't plan correctly, you're right on that. But this year must keep into account the Euro/US equation. We lost a helluva lot on our trip to Italy, and we have done nothing extravagant.
As somebody else said, this situation won't change as long as Bush is in power.
I don't know Giovanni and where he is from, if he has organized things like these in the past, he is certainly the best person to do so.
I know Stewart loves the sea and can take the warm weather (after all, he grew up in the ME), so...I am still thinking that it should be a place where it would be easy for Stew to attend, and if he thinks Santa Monica is right because he is tired, I think that's where we should do it.
Only my opinion, and only worth as such.

Wow.

I -- and my Visa card -- can't even pretend to think this far ahead. We're still questioning whether we can survive this tour!
Dramatic highlights & a unique musical cosmos. Guaranteed.

All my family on my father's side live a small place called Chiesina Uzzanese (near Lucca), my father immigrated when he was a teen, so I go there every so often but I havent been to any of the cities larger than Firenze or Milano for some time now. I'd be game for a trip to Italia, in a heartbeat.

My sister lives in Laguna Beach, so LA is also a dual-use destination to see her and my heart-stealing niece.

London, I have always loved and... while my mom used to live in Guildford she has subsequently moved to France. Pretty much anywhere you list, I have family, LOL.

don't blame you phaty! i live here and i don't want to be here with him in office! don't hold it against us please...

why doesn't everyone do a european leg and a states leg like the tour? i'd love to meet everyone as i'm sure all of you would, but different countries and continents would leave some people out. i mean, those who want could do both right?

i personally am up for anything as long as it's within my budget!

50 weirdos in LA wearing tube socks... who would notice???

:D

[quote="mtobinjones"]Heheh. Great minds daweasel. This did occur to me too.
And part of my job is meeting and convention planning...... So I know a few places out here and can "hook us up".

Did occur to me as well that if we had our first Konvention klose to Casa Copeland, we may have a higher success rate of him showing. he'll need a break from being on the road after all...

Hell, he might even hear the 40 Kazoo salute from up on the hill!

LA having a busy airport means greater amount of discount flights! Who wants to camp in my backyard? I'm figuring Stew's front yard is out- my children could handle 50 weirdos in tube socks camping in the backyard- they are children of roadies, but I am thinking that, thanks to Fiona, Stewart's still have a chance at being a bit normal

and daweasel, there are more in the greater LA area than you and I- we're just the chattiest!

We can always have the SeKond Konvention al Italia!

Fire is contained now but hundreds of homes were lost but no one died. Illegal camp fires strike this area again. People will just never learn.
