Just so you don't feel neglected, Rhianntp, it's pretty unlikely that His Stewieness will be checking in here much between now and, oh... next March.

You might have to bump a few more times.

I had the chance to see Jeff play at a small club in L.A. (the Baked Potato) in '87. I was still in my formative years as a musician and all I can remember is coming away thinking that I have never seen another drummer with such incredible control of their instrument. It was simply mind-blowing to see these guys play up close. I'm not sure I would feel exactly the same way today, having been exposed to a lot more music since then, but it was pretty humbling at the time.

Stewart is in a whole different musical realm for me, so I don't even think of them having anything in common other than they are both drummers. I think of Jeff Porcaro in the same way as I think of Vinnie Colaiuta, but even a bit more "studio-ish".

Edit: (now that I've actually read this thread....I agree with much of what daweasel has already said) :)

I'm prepared to bump till march hehe

Blueboy I agree they are completely differant drummers, but fun to see what they thought of each other if at all....Jeff isnt around anymore so Stewart is the only one to ask

Trust me: Lars IS grumpy. He just had yet another baby (what's with drummers being so prolific?) maybe he'll mellow down.

I remember hearing Hold The Line for the first time and going oh man that is great. However, Pamela will always be my favorite.
I know some of you will be surprised at this, but I actually hear a lot of Keith Moon in Stewart's drumming. It's almost like the drum equivalent of a lead guitarist. Stewart is never afraid to start a fill in the middle of the bar, or to go over the "1" during a hi-hat/tom roll.
I'm not surprised, Jeff, because I have long felt very much the same way. Stewart & Keith are my two favorite drummers for just what you described, being able to bring drumming into a lead role in a song, for completely turning upside-down what you expect to hear from a drummer.

at the QnA following the screening of 'everyone stares...', someone asked stew what he thought of John Bonham saying that he thought stewart was a great drummer. stewart was shocked and said that early on he didnt rate bonham as much moe than a tub thumper, but has recently come to appreciate his drumming style and approach.....
i think taylor hawkins deserves a mention here too, although its clear stewart has copied his style of playing...........

Damn. I thought this was going to be the "question for Stewart"/leotard thread.

Still waiting for that leotard, Stewart.
Dramatic highlights & a unique musical cosmos. Guaranteed.

How about Neil Peart? Another one of my favorites... but no one compares to SC the Great!
