Drummers- do you break cymbals?

Do you bust the crap out of them?

Hellz Yeah! I play like I have sledge hammers in hand!

[quote="BongoBoy"]I have been using the Copeland sticks since they came out. Really nice size...just perfect.

Me thinks Spec A! eats way too much spinach!

What can I say? :) Spec A! is short for SpecialAnthony, and they don't call me that for nothing! ;)

I'm just very passionate about my drumming. If you have a good download speed and some time to kill, watch me and tell me if I hit too hard, play my cymbals wrong, etc..

Yes it is a HUGE file so it will take forever to download. Just let it sit in the background and do it's thing. Eventually the Quicktime logo will change to the video and you can play it.

Back in the late 80's I bought two used Zildjians (crash & ride) made in the 70's. They sounded great, but never looked all nice and shiny. I'd polish them, but they'd still look dull and old- no markings other than the avedis stamp. I was young and wanted something that looked good, so I replaced them several times over the years- Zildjian, Paiste, Sabian- you name it. Eventually they all developed cracks, so a few years back I officially gave up - those old dull looking Zildjians still sound great and are still going strong.

As for sticks, I still use the Regal Tip Rock model, I love the finish on them- the Vaters fly out of my hands.

I have cracked two cymbals, a 14" Zildjian A Custom Crash and an A Custom Splash. The A's are too thin to take a serious beating and being so thin they also take a lot of stress from being packed poorly if you're not careful or don't have a good case for them. I replaced the splash with an identical one and with more care it has lasted at least a decade now.

Heh I played on Custom A crashes today...being not mine I was super careful <giggle>...nice sound though...

For sticks: this is the dumbest thing I'm sure y'll ever heard but I can't use sticks with a varnish/shellac finish on them...first pair I had (Promark 5B's) I played for a few days, practicing my paradiddles or whatnot, and noticed I had about two-thousand tny, tiny (like head of a pin) blisters on my palms...took me a visit to my doctor's office and about 45 mins. of answering questions like about soap, detergents, food etc. and then I put it together it maybe the finish on the sticks (dee-dee-dee)...

Since then I can only use raw sticks without any shiny finish...I mean how dumb...I can play until there are bleeding popped blisters and rough calluses on my hands, but I can't touch sticks with varnish! <giggle>

Someone watches Mencia... ;)

My sweaty hands = blisters galore! I used to sand down the varnish just to minimize blisters, never could do the glove thing like STEWART tho. :)

Pro Mark used to make a line of sticks without varnish called "The Natural." I used them for a long time, but then they started snapping like twigs. The quality just went way downhill. They might still make them, though. www.promark.com

I only wear gloves to prevent blisters when I haven't plyed in a long time. Otherwise, I'm a total spaz if I wear them. Heaven only knows how Stewart does it.

Never broke a cymbal. I try to generally lay back a bit on the drums when i play, because (IMO) every time i see a band play in a small place, the drummer is usually hitting WAY too hard. Drums are loud naturally, you dont need to bash the crap out of them, I think it takes away from the overall sound. Stick I go thru pretty frequently, I play nylon 7A's, usually Vaters. I think I get more 'feel' from the drums with a lighter stick. Dont get me wrong, I can bash the drums pretty well when it's calle for. My band plays a song by Cracker 'Movie Star', i get out the 5A wood tips and give the drums a workout in that one and a few others.
Thanks Stewart!
