Article: New Police compilation, RHYTHMATIST REMASTER

Postby sockii on 02 May 2007 13:39

Well, not necessarily spot on, but a good indication of what tracks may have been on that "30 song" list that they started with at the beginning of the rehearsals, at least. I dunno, just a thought that struck me.

I figure there'll still be a boxed set release close to the holidays (which is when those things usually come out), at which point we'll know better if there'll just be a couple new tracks on that, or (maybe?) a new album. Who knows...

Maybe the new songs will be added as bonus tracks for the Live CD that will logically come out after the tour?

A 6th album? I still have a serious doubt about it. This would necessarly mean a new tour... I can hardly imagine The Police releasing a new album without performing the new songs live.
Would they start a new world tour just after this one? I don't think so, they're not 25 years old anymore... even if they still rock!
Anyone else wondering whether or not the concert setlists might resemble that compilation tracklist up there?
Yeah, I had a similar thought yesterday, sockii. ^

I don't think the setlist will be a facsimile of the compilation, of course. But considering how most tours support a particular album . . . I'm thinking it might be a bit of a guide.

I'm not getting any hopes at this point for a 6th album -- but I do go back in my mind to when Stewart mentioned that going forward, he would rather tour first and then record (so that the recording has some of the tightness and energy from the tour) rather than the other way around (in which the recording is done cold). I can't help but want to rationalize that into a 6th album dream.

Oh, just wanted to add this Police compilation was to be an anthology, right? So why it stops with "Tea in the Sahara"? What about "Don't stand... '86"? OK, it's not a perfect song but it should logically be in an anthology. And if not a perfect song, it's not that bad compared to what other artists or bands did this year.

KK: I'm still enjoying the "Kollected works"... Hope a remastered version would contain some rarities. :D

I've been out for a while... :o

Haven't been able to get online at home for the last few, so my 'net time is limited. Of course, i couldn't miss the top story on the evening news or the special evening edition of the local paper trumpeting the proclamation:

The Rhythmatist returns!!!!

The earth moved and the heavens shook! All the planets are in alignment and my walls now go with my linoleum. On June 5, i will walk into a plain vanilla record store and once again purchase a copy of my all-time favorite album. I once on this very site pledged that should it see print again i would buy a copy every year it's available. But, who know, that could get easily switched to once a month due to sheer zeal!!!

xyzman, that's very curious news to me regarding different version of Gong Rock and Koteja. I have the GR remixes, but have never heard of a work-in-progress version, or a single edit of Koteja. Do you have access to these tunes?

Will there be new material on the remaster? My God, where's the tracklist???? In addition to the above-mentioned tunes, there are unreleased gems in the film itself that could use some fleshing out. Not to mention the '94 tour where they actually took this material on the road.

I Advance Masked is also back in print! I haven't listened to it in years, but now i'm motivated to go dig up my copy and give it a fresh spin!

Oh yeah... i also heard Stewart is going on tour with some group this summer!

Jed,

Koteja was released (in the UK anyway) with a slightly different mix and edited by around 15 - 20 seconds.

The version of Gong Rock on the B-side was a different (and a bit weaker) mix to the LP version.

Firstly it's around 2.40 from memory, fades in and lacks quite a bit of instrumentation - most notably the keyboard horn-sounding motif towards the end of the track.

When I said "work in progress", I was alluding to the fact that it doesn't sound finished, that's all.

My copy is completely knackered and scratched so here's hoping the remaster has it added for completists.

Mind you, that is if they release it in the UK as it has never been released over here on CD - we've only been able to get it on import.

Anyway, hope that clears that up.

Best wishes.

I sure miss STEWART, our correspondent. You know he'd have some choice comments to make about all this.

(Actually I completely understand, as I'm sure we all do, why he's not around...I'm just looking forward to the Dinner Tales I'm sure we'll all read eventually.)

Well, you know, STEWART *does* need a HOBBY for the ROAD to fill up all that DOWN TIME . . .

Don't I seem to remember a mention way back about a thwarted BLOG idea . . . ? *cough*

Yeah. I know the boys have got a cast of thousands lined up to film every show, take tons of photos, etc...but I sure hope STEWART has trekked over to his local big-box store and picked up a few memory cards, lenses, camera batteries, etc. It'd be swell if he were able to post a few personal thoughts & photos here and there in the weeks ahead.

All this mentioning of STEWART's name... Is this the summoning of STEWART? How many times do we need to say STEWART before he appears? :)

I know I miss hearing from STEWART too. Makes me wonder what secrets he's got in store for us. All this keeping quiet, tales with pictures are required.

STEWART *has* been eerily quiet somehow.

But as long as he's okay, we're okay.
STEWART knows all.
STEWART sees all.
STEWART will speak when STEWART is ready to speak.

(Mardee, I don't think this summoning thing is working.)
