Prediction: tour may backfire & turn out a big bore!!

Postby GinaSuperCat on 01 May 2007 13:18
Hooray im not the only one WGTOM!!!

Im not too worried about criticism from on here....its not exactly the most impartial of forums ..and thats fair enough.....it does always concern me a bit tho when people get so into a band or 'pop star' that the band could literally piss on them and they would view it as a refreshing and exciting summer rain shower....anyway if people wanna live in that dream world thats their biz.

HH
Umm, I don't know why you are a fan of Stewart if you think that this even remotely applies here...or the Police...you must just being controversial to get a rise out of peeps here...ya there are devoted fans of Stewart here, it's his official forum FFS, what do you think?...

What are you talking about, really? I mean, who? "Fan001" or "Popstar001" is not meaningful...I mean this is the offical site for SC...are you saying that this is the case *here*? Or, perhaps upon further thought you would realize that (not to speak for everyone, obviously) people are here and fans of Stewart PRECISELY BECAUSE he is NOT like this...never does this...appreciates his fans so much that he f'in posts here in this forum...and I sure hope this is one thread he happens not to see :(

Why would someone shit on the band they are a "fan" of right as they are preparing and rehearsing for like the biggest tour ever...*before* there is really anything substantive to judge, that's my problem...disagree, say they are boring or whatever, but give them a chance to actually produce something to judge...It really boggles the mind to pre-judge negatively...

If you are worried about the "fans" then keep your attention on the stage, which should be easy...it's the Police, live...That's my last word on this topic, this is kinda unproductive...prejudging wih negativity before here is anything really to judge...it's so tabloid, really: hope at least it was entertaining if y'all like the see people irritated and if that was the point....ENJOY! GSC, out

Joshua: Greetings, Professor Falken.

Stephen Falken: Hello, Joshua.

Joshua: A strange game. The only winning move is not to play.

Nothing personal eh nathan?...seems quite personal.

As i thought i made clear it is "fair enough" that a fan site such as this is not particularly impartial...however...i think there is being a fan....as in having an appreciation and getting enjoyment from somebodys work and even sometimes admiration for the person themselves.
And.....there is being a fan in terms of slavish unconditional praise regardless of... well....apparantly anything.....which i personally find a little odd and see rather too much of....not so much on here but that TPT site is frightening.

yes, i am going to a gig ....i hope i will enjoy it.....i have no doubt that i will be beside myself with excitement when stewart walks on stage.
But i didnt get into the police because they sounded like a lounge band playing for middle aged people who might get nervous if the speed goes above 120pbm.
I got into them cos they sounded highly innovative and very exciting...thats what i liked and still like......that is ok isnt it??...that is legitimate....surely?
All this talk of 'ripping the world up' 'setting fire across the globe' is nonsense and im sure we all know this.

Their songs are theirs and they are the only people who can choose how to play them...fair enough.
do i have to approve of and like the interpretation ...no i dont.
do i have to like the disgracefull profiteering.......no i dont.
am i allowed to have a descenting voice.....thankfully ...yes i am.

after all.....nothing progresses very much with yes men does it?

HH: Seriously, nothing personal. Apologies if it came off that way. And sorry if I misinterpreted the statement following the "fair enough" bit. It just seemed to be a blanket indictment of the general populace on the forum. Actually, I have similar views with regard to the "slavish unconditional praise" but I'm not going to get into what makes a fan and what doesn't - that's just a big ol mess.

And your reasons for getting into the Police are certainly okay and obviously legit. I guess I just find the criticism BEFORE anything actually happens odd. After the tour begins? Hey, gloves are off then.

I'm certainly not advocating that no negative things be said...or that opinions not be expressed...I guess all the negative speculation reminds me of people being critical of a controversial film or book even though they haven't seen or read said film or book. Of course announching in Feb. and not playing til late May give us a lot of time to...well, speculate.

Sit down & shut up.

Postby wgtomlinson on 01 May 2007 15:41

No Message in A Bottle, Message in a Forum: I will not shrink from starting this topic. I opened it up right from the start w/ no surprizes/ here is is move on if it sounds silly.

I will sit down & shut up and blend back into the huge Police crowd, but i just like to kick a few tires, shake a few trees to see waht comes out. As entertaining artists, I love the Police. Very intelligent, entertaining guys who have always had us on edge with their music.

I have fears, we all have strange phobias. Its a little hard to swallow a tour w/o music. But alls well.

it's just a band playing music Man!

why not just relax and see what happens?

Don't spread this "just one of the crowd" like we are all wrong for being positive.

go drag someone else down, we have...and will be here as Stewart fans!

Constructive commenst are always cool, trying to start up a dust storm is another.

The TONE of your post (for me) was looking for a fight.

Whatever....you came to the right place.

I'm sure you have such a horrible time at the concert? such a cash grab eh? oh yea, you HAVE tickets...WTF??????????????

I'm gonna go listen to some relaxing tunes now...this board is sadly getting a TPT vibe.

How can anyone ruin Police momteneum.

Postby wgtomlinson on 01 May 2007 16:24

See now that's the thing about forums: anyone, I mean anyone can post. There is no sesorship. HOW CAN I RUIN ANYONE'S SUMMER CONCERT W/ ONE LOUSEY OPINION? Sounds as if some of you haave shakey personal opinions. I'll bet 98% are confident the Police will sound great. 2% unsure of anything?

Hey, beat up Ringo Starr b/f going after me. He said it first.

Here's a point who gives a dam what Ringo thinks...he just wishes he could be the drummer/composer Stewart Copeland is. And what great thing has Ringo done after The Beatles....answer nothing..."the all star jam with two drummers" cause Ringo has always been overrated and can't play in time that is a fact Bernard Purdie said this as well. If he wants to talk about boring....fill in the blanks with "Ringo Star's drummer = boring" and he is so dam stuck on himself. Has he actually listen to himself play he bites!!!!!
and if sometimes i can't seem to talk you know this blackborad lacks a piece of chalk

It's all a game . . .
The price of fame . . .

Don't let yourself get riled, Bongo baby. We all know you'll go to the mat for Stewart every time. It's okay to just take a deep breath and walk away til the dust settles. You know your heart; you know why you're here; you know how amazing these next months will be. Don't get lost in the storm.

BBoy- I don't think this place has a TPT vibe to it. The naysayers can come and go, we can still stay and talk all things of Stewart, The Police, and Drumming till the cows come home. Don't sweat it man! :D

As for the nervousness of what they'll sound like? I'd be fooling myself if I didn't agree that deep down there's a teeny bit of nervous anticipation- will it be good?!?! We all know it won't be the stuff of 78-83. But will it be good?!?! Will it be good?!?!?!.......

How can it NOT?! It's the f'ing Police, back together after ALL THESE YEARS!!!! Three amazing musicians back on stage (at the same time, playing with each other mind you! ;) ). Yes it will be different, but it won't be crap. This will be my first time ever seeing Stewart play, and it just makes it unbelievably perfect that it's with The Police. :D

I'm a happy man.
